SimpleScreenRecorder 0.3.8 - 64-bit, AppImage-based in 'portable' format...

Post by mikewalsh »

Evening, gang.

I found this particular AppImage at AppImageHub, more than four years ago. It runs flawlessly.....though I've never actually done anything with it, because it's not my favourite screen capture app. That honour goes to recordMyDesktop, which has to be the simplest thing ever to use.

That being the case, I stuck it into storage, and kinda forgot about it.....it was a while before I started producing the portables, so I wasn't that interested at the time.

I was searching through my archives earlier on today, and re-discovered it. And realised straight away that it was a perfect candidate for the 'portable' treatment. So that's what I've done.

------------------------------------------------------

The usual caveats apply:-

  • Download it

  • Unpack it

  • Move the portable's directory anywhere you like, but preferably outside the 'save'

  • Click to enter

  • Click 'LAUNCH' to fire it up

The usual MenuAdd/MenuRemove scripts allow adding a MenuEntry from wherever it's located, should one be wanted. Alternatively, run from the 'LAUNCH' script to use it AS a 'portable.

------------------------------------------

If anyone's interested, you can find the tarball at my MEGA a/c, here:-

Hope some of you find it useful. Enjoy.

Mike. ;)

@mikewalsh

Checking to see if you have a line on v0.4.1, it apparently has a timer/scheduler that might be useful.

Thanks

@wizard :-

Short answer....no. Haven't seen anything beyond, what.......0.3.10/11? And it's not something I've ever tried building myself, 'cos my compiling skills are rubbish.

Sorry, but I can't help on this one, buddy.

EDIT:- Hmm... Seems it's actually at 0.4.4 ATM. What d'you want it for; Fossa64, I presume?

@wizard :-

May not need to, mate. I've found Maarten Baert's Launchpad PPA; he's got packages compiled for all the major 'buntu releases, going right back to Trusty.... :o

I've just updated both Tahrpup32 AND my 'daily driver' - jrb's excellent lite spin on Quirky64 April 701 (which is Tahrpup-era) - to SimpleScreenRecorder v0.4.4.....the newest version. Both working very sweetly, too. :thumbup:

If you don't mind bearing with me, I'm going to run up a bunch of 'upgrade' .pets for both arches of Tahrpup, ditto Xenialpup, ditto Bionicpup, and also Fossapup64. These will be for folks that already have an older version of SSR installed; the dependencies don't look to have changed, with the sole exception of libssr-glinject. May take a day or two, so please be patient!

No reason Jasper can't have a go at compiling it for Fossa, but DO warn him; there's quite a bunch of dependencies involved.

@wizard :-

You can find a .pet package of the current 0.4.4 build for Fossapup64 here:-

.....if you're interested. Can't see any sign of a timer function, though I've only skimmed through the set-up pages briefly. Maybe it IS there....I couldn't say.

Just install "over the top" of your existing version. (Seems to work fine; the only thing you may get, if you haven't done so already, is a pop-up requesting you turn off "flipping" for the Nvidia driver, as it interferes with the way SSR works.)

@mikewalsh

Just installed v0.4.4 and it does in fact include a timer/scheduler function. Haven't tried yet, but this will be really useful for capturing streaming content.

Thanks MIke
