Re: Drivers etc for Canon MG2500 series printer
From the intro of Puppy Precise back what,8 years ago? ,the driver issue seemed to disappear as more drivers were released and put into Puppy distros.
With PuppyPrecise and now certainly with xenialpup64-7.5 many cannon printers just fire straight up .
Cannon in my opinion make it the easiest to get up and running .
I've been running a Cannon MG2560 for about that long.

So I do find this strange. I plug in the MG2560 Ink Jet Printer/scanner/copier and bring it up on CUPS and add it ,set the defaults and the printer and scanner and copier all work with nothing else needed so beware what software you install !!

I expect that your MG2560 printer is auto-detected by the Gutenprint printer driver that is included in Puppies. In my experience, Gutenprint is adequate for basic printing. But if you want photo quality, you need the vendor driver. There is no reason to be wary of these drivers.
Recent Puppies have a new version of the SANE scanner driver that recognizes far more Canon models than before. So your scanner should also be auto-detected.
OTOH, Canon has released many more models since your MG2560 that will require the vendor drivers to work in Puppy.

Re: Drivers etc for Canon MG2500 series printer
I use a Canon MG2500 printer on a machine running Tahr-6.0.5 very successfully (for a long time now...knock on wood....). Using avahi I have the system able to be seen as an AirPrint capable printer. Though most printing goes through CUPS which had the MG2500 drivers listed in the options. Now printing from an Android, iPad, iPod Touch Gen 5+, iPhone as well as direct cable from the desktop and other machines on the LAN, is possible.
The scan functions very well with a scan program for Linux for the MG2500 series that I found somewhere buried in Canon's repo's.
From Canon South & Southeast Asia here is a link for the MG2500 drivers -> https://asia.canon/en/support/0100550201
This scan package should work -> https://asia.canon/en/support/0100551901
Also available from Canon India -> https://in.canon/en/support/0100551901
