Sorry, I can't help you with opera because (a) I'm currently running Bionicpup64; and (b) I stopped using any version of opera after the Chinese obtained a controlling interest in it. Bad enough that NASA and the EU's equivalent keep track of everything I do. Having the Chinese spy on me didn't seem a good idea. But maybe I'm just being xenophobic. Why shouldn't the Chinese know what the other guys do? > I post a lot to Puppy Linux Discussion Forum.
I can tell you that Mike Walsh published portable versions of slimjet, vivaldi and Iron all of which work well. But there won't be any updates. Their publishers stopped making those. Each has advantages and users who will point them out.
@mmmrr :-
Needs the "--no-sandbox" switch, 'cos it's running as root. And, er.....that Opera from Quickpet is ONLY at least 30 major versions out-of-date! That is Opera v58.....and we're currently up to Opera v90.
Why don't you try the Opera-portable browser package I publish..? I updated it about 3 days ago. As it happens, Bionic is now the oldest Puppy this will still run in, because of the libffmpeg dependency it now needs to behave itself.....this being compiled by somebody who's obviously running the very latest cutting-edge release of some OS or another.
Scripts inside the portable's directory will let you add or remove a Menu entry, if one is desired. Or you can just run it from the 'LAUNCH' script.
You'll need to uninstall the existing package first, because the MenuAdd script places a sym-link into /usr/bin.....and a symlink cannot overwrite a regular file.
You can find it here:-

Download link's in the first post, as always, along with usage instructions.
Mike.
hi mikewalsh,
i was thinking of of of yr portables;
palemoon has been a lifesaver.
the quickpet opera out of bionic32
came good a few weeks ago on another
machine...so..
removing opera first:
it doesn't show up in ppm installed list
so i can't remove it that way.
menu manager has opera listed under internet
but i assume that just removes the menu entry??
pfind gives me 30 instances of opera, in system files.
some are in the word 'operational'
others seem to refer to kernel entries
tried:
root# opera --no-sandbox
Trace/breakpoint trap
root#
thinking that if i got an opera running i could
maybe update it.
cheers, mm
hi mikeslr,
thanks, i've seen yr thoughts on opera before.
i understand the validity of the point of view.
cheers, mm
hello...
i would welcome advice as to how to remove
the quickpet opera which will not run .
cheers, mm
It'll either be in Puppy Package Manger (PPM) or is a squash file. You can unload it via the sfs load on the fly entry in the menu, under utility.

Answer this first.
Did Quickpet start installing Opera or did it take you to the Opera web site, to get the download Opera deb package?
The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected
hi, first, about 12 hours ago
t removed all strictly 'opera' files/folders
which pfind listed, then installed the portable
opera which mikewalsh offered. so far it is running fine.
second, phoenix, you suggested ppm as one possibility
for removal. you did not see in the post previous to
yours, that i had tried that. you suggested that sfs load on the fly
under utility a removal might be possible. not in utility
but in setup i found sfs load on the fly but it declared nothing
to unload.
hi big pup,
as best i remember quickpet just began downloading opera.
cheers, mm
