[CLOSED] JWM-2.4.2 testers wanted

Post by peebee »

@radky @bigpup @mikewalsh @mikeslr @rockedge @zigbert and anybody else interested to test a new version of jwm....

JammyPup32-22.04+jwm242.iso

is built with a new petbuild of jwm-2.4.2 and needs testing to see what things might be broken when moving from jwm-2.3.7 (hopefully not much if anything)

we already know that there is a problem with wallpaper Sky.svg so do not use that or ptheme = Original Pup (fix underway)

please report any issues found here

thanks

@01micko @dimkr for reference

@peebee,

RE: JammyPup32-22.04+jwm242.iso

Accessing the 'u.pcloud.link' for the above iso did not connect for me, so I downloaded dimkr's vanilladpup-x86_64-9.2.0-preview18, which includes the updated JWM-2.4.2 (with svg fix) for testing.

1 - From a recent woof-ce pup I copied additional 'global' themes into the dpup install. This included the 'Original' global theme with the Sky.svg background that crashed in your tests of the initial release of JWM-2.4.2. In the updated vanilla dpup preview 18 (which includes dimkr's svg fix for JWM-2.4.2), all global themes of the pTheme module function properly (no crash).

2 - In initial testing, JWM-2.4.2 is also compatible with JWMdesk >= 3.5.4.

3 - JWM vgit-1659 (an early developmental release of v2.4) introduced a 5000 ms (5 sec) menu-command-timeout to prevent prolonged delays in completion of jwm functions. However, as implemented at that time, the menu-command-timeout and possible issues with pipe handling could be intermittently triggered by calls to dynamic menus (such as the Places menu) followed by a 5-second delay before JWM would respond to user input. In initial testing of JWM-2.4.2, it seems this issue is now fixed. (thanks @joewing, @01micko, @dimkr)

JammyPup32-22.04+jwm242, frugal, save folder.

At first, the tray places, when clicked on, would show a menu.
After using Desktop Settings -> Tray to change anything.
Places stopped working when clicked on.

Right click on desktop does not show a menu.

I am starting to wonder if there is something wrong with the setup programs being used.
Trying to make setting changes do not seem to be working 100% correct all the time.
Example:
JWM Shortcuts -> Mouse Actions
These options seem to not do anything if changed.

I used Ptheme program to make some changes and I got some menu now when clicking on tray Places, but it looks like this
I did nothing that should have changed what is in the Places menu:

Hi @bigpup

Thanks for testing and your report.

I can't duplicate your problem - the Places menu seems to be maintained whatever tray changes I make - could you test again from a pristine install and record the steps that leads to the problem?

Thanks
peebee

Sorry,
I guess I had a bad download of the ISO, a bad install, or both. :thumbdown:

Using a fresh download of the ISO and fresh clean install.
JammyPup32-22.04+jwm242.iso from first post link.

Stuff seems to be working now. :thumbup:

Still doing testing to see if anything pops up bad on this new install :ugeek: :)
Anything specific you feel needs checked?

Well, we proved a bad download, install, or both can cause issues. :o :shock: :roll:

JammyPup32-22.04+jwm242.iso from first post link.

Desktop Settings -> Corner Actions

The left upper corner setting not working.

All other corners can be set to do something.

Noticed the mouse pointer will go off screen on other corners to perform selected function.
Left upper corner the mouse pointer stays on screen.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

JammyPup32-22.04+jwm242.iso from first post link.

Changing desktop icons.
Using Desktop Settings -> Desktop Icons -> Theme
Also when using Ptheme -> Icons Theme (menu/desktop)

The icons change OK.

But right clicking on the desktop does not bring up the main menu.

After doing a Restart of Graphical Server.

The icons are what was selected and now right click on desktop shows main menu.

Same applies to tray -> Places menu.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

Reporting on jwm-4.2.2 running in vanilladpup_9.2.0 .
In JWM Menu manager > Menu height controls are not working.
It is set at 24 pixels, +/- buttons do not work and the size field does not take direct manual entries.
I modified ~/.jwm/menuheights, that changes the entry in the size field but it has no effect.

Edit:
I found similar issues with 'Places' as reported by bigpup. Places works sometimes, sometimes it does not.

One nitpick in 2.3.6 is that if you change colors in a theme, when the menu is solid color "A", and the higghlighted menu item is "B", AND is gradient, the gradient is from "B" to "A", not "B1" to "B2". See if that nit has been fixed. Some other stuff I read here is more important. But altering a theme to taste can be buggy. I found this nit in Slacko-7.0 32.

The fix for broken dynamic menus (https://github.com/joewing/jwm/pull/577) is merged into JWM!

The next Vanilla Dpup build (9.2.4, scheduled for July 2nd) will include this fix (viewtopic.php?t=6105). :thumbup:
