Computer humor

Post by Grey »

A set of computer-themed puns: https://puns.dev/ There's about Linux, Windows, Python, Raspberry Pi, etc.
Jokes are different there. There are some stupid ones, but there is something interesting. In general, I am not a native speaker, I have no right to evaluate :)

If the page is simply updated (CTRL+R or with an icon in browser), then the background color will always be some kind of pale green. But if you just randomly poke at the screen or click on "Click for more" at the bottom of the screen, then the background color changes.

If someone ever decides to do something similar on the subject of a Dogs+Linux :) , then here is Alex's page on Github.

German puns

Post by Grey »

On Github, you can find unexpected interesting "things"! For example, a collection of German puns by Philipp Weißmann from Nuremberg: https://github.com/derphilipp/Flachwitze
For convenience, you can download README.md

I understand some puns without any problems. For example, such :) :

Sagt der Pessimist: "Schlimmer geht nicht!" - Sagt der Optimist: "Doch!"

But some, especially those consisting of one word, do not make me smile:

Brennholzverleih.

I understand that here two words are combined into one. But this understanding does not help me :)
Firewood for rent. Who knows German well (@rockedge, anyone?), please explain the meaning to me.

Different devices. Different approach.

Firewood for rent? Well you are not going to get your deposit back.

Does this mean the same thing in Germany? Then the question is closed :)

What can you do with rented firewood?
Native puns...
My favorite:
Auch aus eckigen Radios kann man Rundfunk hören.
It doesn't make sense to translate it, it is (or may be) funny only to native speakers.

At the moment my level is low, the maximum is :) :

@Grey
the term Brennholzverleih should translate to FIre Wood Rental as in the name of the shop or company offering such a deal.

A Brennholzverleih. will rent firewood to you as a business model.

I think in this case Brennholzverleih translates to firewood loan ;)

1.) To err is human to **** it up takes a computer.

2.) Microsoft Bob.

3.) Talking paperclips.

4.) Humans don't know whats good for them... like cookies, and spam. They're both good.

5.) But it goes to 11, twice. (Spinal Tap referencce, so does windows)

6.) In Windows Basic ^BS does not work (CTRL BS in 1978)

7.) Sixtyfour is an odd name for a Navy Officer.

Money talks... no, it shouts, so that it doesn't have to hear common sense.

Not specifically computer "humour", perhaps, but for anyone who understands Brit humour, and doesn't mind some swearing (okay; a LOT of swearing!), take a peek at this site:-

http://pigeonsnest.co.uk/index.html

I found it earlier on this evening, and no word of a lie, I have been pissing myself laughing for the last 2½ hours.....at least. In fact you need to be a Brit to understand a lot of the references, and if in-your-face swearing offends you, this is not for you! :D

He does make a lot of bloody good points though.... In particular, this section:-

but for anyone who understands Brit humour,

Here my maximum level is Benny Hill and his show, which was shown regularly in the 90s :) There was Fred XXXX of something there. And although one of my relatives then said that it was all the machinations of the capitalists and the disintegration of the nation... it was fun :D I still remember the melody from there.

A-ha. You refer, I presume, to "Yakety Sax"?

.....or listen:-

Still makes me smile even now. :) And the character's name was, of course.....Fred Scuttle..!

You've Got Mail.

My all time favorite was "The diary of an AOL user" from USENET
Here is the whole post archived at reddit
https://www.reddit.com/r/oldinternet/co ... _aol_user/

"August 9 - I just made my signature file. Its only 6 pages long. I will
have to work on it some more.

August 10 - I just looked at a group called alt.aol.sucks. I read a few
posts and I really believe that aol should be wiped off the face of the
earth. I wonder what an aol is. "

The funny thing is that some things never change.

Yes, the melody is the same. But I never knew its name. We've always called it "music from Benny Hill" :) Once I even did a remix for the AY chip on ZX Spectrum.

And I couldn't memorize Fred's last name at that time. It's just that the English language teaching system was peculiar :)

'dear Russians'

Post by Grey »

Today we have "computer" humor :)
Very, very subtle trolling from Google.

Google Translator suggests replacing the phrase "dear Russians" with "deaD Russians".
At the same time, there is no such hint if you enter any other nationality instead of Russians.

But we all understand here that the corporation of Good simply helps in a friendly way the rapprochement between the peoples of different countries, offering funny jokes and sparkling humor for this :) :

By Saturday evening, it was removed :) I wonder if it was someone from the staff who played out of boredom or the decision was made at the top.

Steps on How to Become a Computer Geek

  • Learn what hardware is.
    Learn what software is.
Learn the specs (technical specifications) of your computer.
Learn to use your computer’s command line.
Learn to type without looking at the keyboard. This isn’t especially important, but this will definitely boost your efficiency at the computer, and make yourself look more sensible.
Ask. If someone does something on a computer that you would like to know, ask them about it.
Learn a programming language. This is one of the most important things to do.
    Start learning basic repair procedures.
Work with others with their computer problems.
Help others out with their computer problems.
Learn how to install and upgrade drivers for various hardware types.
    Learn to recognize malware.
    Use a restrictive firewall.
Use an Open Source Operating System.
    Use Shortcuts.
Know the inner workings of the Internet, and how to use them.
Remember to keep things simple. Skip overwhelming or overly-complicated ideas. Instead, focus on learning the knowledge and skills you may need to accomplish a big idea in the future.
Expand your knowledge. Computer geeks aren’t too smart to learn something new about computers. True computer geeks are always learning, and when they don’t understand, always asking for help.
Learn particular types of math. This is very important to geeks. One bit of data is a binary digit – a one or a zero. Eight bits make a byte. Learn how many bytes are in a kilobyte (KB), megabyte (MB), gigabyte (GB) and so on.
Do some research on the topic of data storage.

When you understand why programmers always get Christmas and Halloween mixed up, you’re well on your way to becoming a true geek.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

I have always want to learn about the fixing of computers but unfortunately, I never got the chance to learn anything about that. Now whenever I face any kind of issue, I have to call the local IT solutions.
