Bionicpup32 8.0 abiword change default save to .odt. change the keyboard for using in french/english/spanish

Post by gilles »

Hello,
I did a bionic 32 frugal install. keybord installed = fr french
I have 2 problems with abiword
I want to set the défault save to .odt
With xenial I could do it with geany by adding a line.
I had :
<SystemDefaults
Ruler/Units="cm"
/>
I made it :
<SystemDefaults
DefaultSaveFormat=".odt
Ruler/Units="cm"
/>
And it works perfectly
But, with Bionic 32, the first problem is that I see 2 abiwords : abiword-2.8 and abiword-3.0
Well, I did it the two abiword, but itt doesn't work

Second problem :
I use to write in french, or in english or, in spanish.
So, I need a keybord which allows it
French and english : no problem. The problem is spanish
In xenial, with geany, I modified the keyboard this way :
AB07 replace "dead acute" by "questiondown"
AB10 relace "deadbelowdot" by "exclamdown"
AE02 replace "oneeigth" by "dead_tilde"
AD11 replace "dead-diaresis" by "dead_acute".

With bionic 32, I don't have to modify AB07 and AB10. But itt is clear I am not, with geany on the good keyboard, because it appear that, I had to modify AB07 and AB10... I modified AE02 and AD11, but it doesn't work...
Any idea ?
Thank you
But doing all

I use to write in french, or in english or, in spanish.
So, I need a keybord which allows it

In the menu, run the Mouse Keyboard wizard.

or type input-wizard in a terminal (console)

Click the Advanced Configuration button.

or you can use setxkbmap

For example;

setxkbmap us
setxkbmap 'us(alt-intl)'
setxkbmap fr
setxkbmap es
setxkbmap ca
setxkbmap 'ca(fr)'
setxkbmap 'us(alt-intl),fr,es'

etc etc

Hello William2
I solved one of the 2 problems, by choosing the variant keyboard "oss_latin9 fr: French (alt., Latin-9 only." It isn't quite easy, because to type ñ (spanish) and letters with a dead acute ( in spanish, á í ó ú) it is no more the same place than before...

But I have still the other problem with abiword :
I want to set the défault save to .odt
With xenial I could do it with geany by adding a line.
I had :
<SystemDefaults
Ruler/Units="cm"
/>
I made it :
<SystemDefaults
DefaultSaveFormat=".odt
Ruler/Units="cm"
/>
And it works perfectly
But, with Bionic 32, the first problem is that I see 2 abiwords : abiword-2.8 and abiword-3.0
Well, I did it the two abiword, but it doesn't work.
Thank you for your help

Are you editing /root/.config/abiword/profile ?

Do you have more than 1 DefaultSaveFormat= line in the file?

It isn't quite easy

Have you set up the keymap you want?

Does it use dead keys, if that is what you want?
Does it use a compose key if that is what you want?
Does your keyboard match the keymap?

See: http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/pre ... fig.7.html

Attached: a script to switch between 3 different keymaps us(intl), es, and fr.
The script pops up a notification in the top right corner telling you which keymap is set.
(requires notify-send)
The script is zipped, download then click it to unzip.

The script can be dragged to the desktop then a shortcut key set.
Or jwmdesk can set a shortcut key for it.

Edited topic subject to better identify Puppy version and specific issues.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

This is not what I expected :o

Hello Wiliam2
I edit it, with geany, in usr/share/abiword-3.0/system.profile-fr-FR (and did it too, with the other abiword).
As explained, I had this :
<SystemDefaults
Ruler/Units="cm"
/>
and I add a line :
DefaultSaveFormat=".odt

I am wrong ?
Thank you

I forgot to say that, in France, we use Azerty keyboards. So I am acustomed to write with azerty keyboards.
Clearly, it i impossible to use, a time, an azerty keyboard, and, another time, a qwerty keyboard !
This is the reason why I need to modify an azerty keyboard (especialy for wrinting in spanish) for writing ñ, ¿, ¡, í, ó, ú, and not to change from qwerty to azerty, or azerty to qwerty, With xenial, I did it by modifying the letters AB07, AB10, AE02, and AD11.

You can make qwerty keymaps into azerty keymaps by putting this:

Code: Select all

keycode  24 = a A a A
keycode  38 = q Q q Q
keycode  52 = w W w W
keycode  25 = z Z z Z

into a file named /root/.Xmodmap
then restart X or reboot.

(If you want, not obligatory)

I think, maybe, that the default file that abiword uses is system.profile not system.profile-fr-FR

Does it work if you edit the file system.profile ?

Hello Wiliam2
I edited /usr/share/abiword-.2.8 in system.profile too, the same way :
<SystemDefaults
DefaultSaveFormat=".odt
RulerUnits="cm"
/>
But it doen't work. I have still not .odt by défault.
I notice I have
<SystemDefaults
DefaultSaveFormat=
in black, as well as cm
and all the rest is in orange color.

The other problem is completly solved : I chose the keyboard "FR french", an, this way, the changes I made in the keyboard for the letters AB07, AB10, AE02, and AD11 work.
Thank you for your help.

<SystemDefaults
DefaultSaveFormat=".odt
RulerUnits="cm"
/>

There seems to be a missing quote character after .odt

It should look like this:

bon.jpg
bon.jpg (12.43 KiB) Viewed 631 times

It should NOT look like this:

mal.jpg
mal.jpg (10.97 KiB) Viewed 631 times

That will not work.

Abiword 2.8 and 3.0 are incompatible. They use slightly different names for the abiword folder in /root/.config/

Hello William2

Editing, with geany, in usr/share/abiword-3.0/system.profile-fr-FR, (the keyboard fr-FR is the keyboard I installed) I added the character " after odt to get this :
<SystemDefaults
DefaultSaveFormat=".odt"
RulerUnits="cm"
/>
instead of this : :
<SystemDefaults
DefaultSaveFormat=".odt
RulerUnits="cm"
/>
And it works !
Thank you very much for your help
