We're all very used to Retrovol in Puppy. Pizzasgood's wee masterpiece has stood the test of time, and is a default part of every Puppy out there.

Radky has used a rather nice, alternative combination in DPup 'Stretch'. Retrovol has been replaced with pnmixer, available from the Debian repos, and the 'mixer' itself has been replaced with the old favourite, GNOME-AlsaMixer. It's a combination I really like.

If you fancy a change, and you're running a modern Puppy, simply install the above two packages ( 'pnmixer' and 'gnome-alsamixer' ) from the PPM. So that you don't have two volume controls showing, just rt-clk on the Retrovol icon, go into the settings, un-tick the checkbox for 'Enable tray icon', and 'Apply'. Retrovol still runs in the background, but no longer displays an icon. The two combinations appear to co-exist quite peacefully, neither interfering with the other.

For those of us running older, say 5-series Pups (especially like Raring, where the repos went off-line years ago), I've put together a small package that'll install both pnmixer and gnome-alsamixer. I obtained the files from the 'old-releases' section at /ubuntu/pool, sympathetically dated to be the versions which would have been available at the time many older Pups were built."
