Hello everybody.
I'm trying tahr 6_0_5 32 bit in live mode on an acer netbook with 1 gb ram.
vlc is the default mediaplayer on this o.s, but I can't hear the audio.
as soon as the file is opened, the video advances, but the photo message appears.
do you have any suggestions to solve the problem.
thank you all

Re: VLC work without audio
@kyou :-
Uh-huh. IIRC, that particular VLC - 2.1.6 "Rincewind", I believe? - seemed to have more than its fair share of problems. For me, audio wasn't the issue, but it refused to recognise ANY video codecs at all.
Now; audio. Try this; with a video playing, click on 'Audio' up top, then down to 'Audio device'. Do you get a list of available outputs.....and can you select something different?
That's the first thing to try, anyway.
Mike.

Re: 32 bit Tahr: VLC works, but without audio
Do you actually have sound working by having the correct sound device selected to normally use in Tahrpup?
You can get sound from a browser or some other program that provides sound?
If yes.
Check the setup options in VLC to make sure that specific sound device is set for it to use.
Tharpup has the Quickpet program. (icon on desktop)
Run Quickpet->Info->Tahrpup updates
Reboot and save so new stuff is now being used.
Tahrpup had several of these updates.
So do this untile it reports no new updates.
There may be something, it provides, that will help, but for sure, you will have a better working Tahrpup.
The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

aplay -l

You've anticipated me, Ian..! That was going to be MY next question.....if & when we hear back from the OP.

Re: 32 bit Tahr: VLC works, but without audio
Don't know if it will help, but there is a later (and maybe better) version of VLC available for 32bit TahrPup.
You can find it by searching in Puppy Package Manager (always update the database first), or download it directly from the official Tahr repo here:-
http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pe ... 0_tahr.pet
As others have said, it may be that you need to find the correct setting for your audio device in the Preferences.

the "aplay -l" command gives this message:

Re: 32 bit Tahr: VLC works, but without audio
- Go to Menu, Setup, then choose Alsa Sound Wizard.
- Click the "Multiple Cards" button and see if you can select and test the sound from the third card - "card 2"
(maybe also post a pic of the list of cards displayed by the multiple cards wizard)
Re: 32 bit Tahr: VLC works, but without audio
Hi,
From
menu> configuration> Alsa sound wizard> multiple Cards
I get the Window that you see in picture
Thanks

Re: 32 bit Tahr: VLC works, but without audio
You need to select the 2nd card that is the analog one, as default.
The analog one, should be what provides sound to the laptop speakers or a head set.
That needs to be the sound card for the Puppy system.
Test to make sure it is providing sound.
Also look on laptop for any key that turns sound on/off.
Turn it on.
You may need to still set it as the card for sound in VLC config options.
