Clear memory caches

Post by amethyst »

This can be useful if you have a RAM challenged machine as it may prevent a system lock up. I remember using it on an older machine long time ago. Used to run it every hour or so when watching HD videos. Typically useful when running in RAM mode.

@amethyst :-

Sounds about right. It's the same command I found over at BlackmoreOps.com the other week, when I was researching how to build DriveSpeed!

In that instance it's used to clear the drive buffers between test 'runs' in order to get a correct, clean reading.

Multi-useful.....as are so many things in Linux.

Mike. ;)

So, basically it is useless for pc with 8 or more GB of RAM?

CleanRam_0.2 can be found here as a .pet, and it converts via pet2sfs into a .sfs which runs happily on 32 and 64 bit Puppy OSs, in my wxperience. Wouldn't be without it, especially when running graphics/wine programs on 4GB Ram computers.

Well, it depends on what you are running. Could still be useful even if you have 8 GB.
