Why are you using vlc-gtk?

It isn't necessary, the video players builtin to easyos work fine for me.

Well, they didn't for me so i tried one other from the petget system. The response from your celluloid is at the bottom, it also still failed, which is why I added the quiestion. I've also tried the memory stick on a number of other HP, Dell, acer and levano desktops with similar responses, yet using my t2 system they all work, so i suspect something is missing.

In /root/.jwmrc you can see how these apps are launched, and you can then start them from a terminal. This will enable you to see all error message outputted by that app.

For celluloid:

# celluloidshell

For MPV:

# mpv --player-operation-mode=pseudo-gui

thanks,

but celluloid gives these same error messages and back to the # prompt

** (io.github.celluloid_player.Celluloid:27510): WARNING **: 17:05:29.909: Failed to guess content type for mount pts: mount doesn’t implement content type guessing

** (io.github.celluloid_player.Celluloid:27510): WARNING **: 17:05:29.909: Failed to guess content type for mount sys: mount doesn’t implement content type guessing

and MPV just gives me a black box and nothing in either it or the console I started it with (except a # in the console).

I also get those warnings, but celluloid still works.

mpv has a "pseudo gui", you have to drag a video file onto it. <space> or <right click> will start and stop the video.

I've been advised that i need a libdvdcss2 driver installed and it can be found at Videolan, via https://www.videolan.org/developers/libdvdcss.html, seems that cd-video is there but dvd-video is not.

EasyOS does have libdvdcss.

I inserted a dvd, clicked on the icon, and Celluloid started and the dvd played. Both video and audio working.

The mpv "pseudo-gui" is a problem though. I can run the video from the commandline, like this:

# mpv --player-operation-mode=pseudo-gui dvd://

...and it works. Output on the terminal shows libdvdcss is working.

Celluloid is just a GUI frontend to mpv, so the pseudo-gui is not really needed.

Ok, your mpv --player-operation-mode=pseudo-gui dvd:// works so the message sent to me was incorrect.
From that line, I added the last bit to the mpv.desktop as a test, didn't work, gives an error "no file-mpv" so I just reverted that.
However, with that bit added, clicking on the disc icon started celluloid, yeah, but nothing else;

I next went looking into celluloid's preferances and configuration locations (3bars at top of screen, preferances) and found it was set for home, wrong directory, changed both of the settings to /etc/mpv/encoding-profiles.conf where it seems to actually be;
also added dvd:// under preferances, miscellaneous, extra MPV options;
and it at last starts when you click on the disc icon, still won't via the menu, it's not recognizing a playlist or that a dvd exists in the drive, so somethings still not right.
But at least i can start and play the dvd now.

I'll await your new version and see if that fixes anything else.

Also, sorry to be a pain, but that annoying problem of the drive drawer autoclosing again before you can do anything has resurfaced.
