A few possibilities - have you checked alsamixer via a terminal to see if mic is on & at a decent level?
Are you trying to use a skype program, or skype-for-web via a browser (login.live.com)?
Personally, I use skype-for-web via google-chrome without problems.

just testing puppy's skype. don't want associated land/mob number. unsure how to setup mic, retrovol is limited options in 64 bit verusus upupbb32-latest NB mobo has no seperate mic jack, and stereo spkrs are plugged in..
perhaps the mic and speakers share the jack and it's disabled by the stereo connector? would BT spkrs but can't make work on either system, puppy bad for BT i'm told.

@boof :-

IMHO, simplest way round this, regardless of comms app you're trying to run, is to buy yrself a USB headset.

My Logitech H340 does me proud. Digital-quality headphones, swing-down short boom microphone - tucks out of the way when you're not using it - and a rather "chunky" USB connector.....because it contains its own audio card. And it's this last item that makes chat in Puppy so easy, because it has just two controls; volume, and microphone level.

No need for audio & microphone jacks. No more playing around with Retrovol's various 'capture' switches & sliders, trying to get a working balance. Select it with the Multiple_Soundcard_Wizard, 'OK' it, and off you go.... Easy-peasy, nice & simple.

(An old fart like me needs 'simple' these days..!!) :D

Mike. ;)
