Tor Browser Bundle

Post by OscarTalks »

Quite useful in some instances for more private and more secure browsing.
Repack of the official release with just a few adaptations to make it more compatible with Puppy. This includes run-as-root and internal apulse to provide audio output. Recent Tor Browser Bundle should work in most recent Puppies. GTK3 is required. In some older Puppies (eg Wheezy) you can get it to work adding libatomic as well.

I thought I had seen Tor for Puppies on the new Forum, but couldn't find it until just now. I must be slipping.

Thanks, oscartalks.

Not having found it, I went about creating my own version. Basically, downloading direct from Tor's website, adding the "extralibs" folder from fredx181's firefox-quantum portable, and creating or flinching a wrapper so that it would use those libs and not complain about running as root. See my post here, viewtopic.php?p=8168#p8168 from which you can download the wrapper.

Version updates happen quite often and I try to update my packages when I become aware of a new release. I believe the automatic update feature does work though. Uploaded as .pet or .sfs
Tested and working including sound in Xenial64 (64bit) and in my Wheezy Pup remaster (32bit)
EDIT:- Now Version 10.0.15
See first post of this thread.

It's been a while since the last v10 build. Any possibility of a new one? Thanks

They have moved to 10.5.x as the current release now and this has stopped working in some of the earlier Pups. Also, a few weeks ago, someone commented that they were not keen to use packages of a security-related program which have been provided by a third party. So I am considering stopping uploading any more of these. The updates are quite frequent so it requires some dedication to keep on top of it. When I get chance, I may investigate a bit to see what can be made to work and in what Puppy versions. I believe the automatic update function does work, but of course this becomes a problem if the updated version no longer works.

I only use Tor as an SFS as it used occasionally.

Just updated it today ............ I am using Fossapup64-95. Maybe someone might have use for it.

This release updates Firefox to 102.9.0esr, including bug fixes, stability improvements and important security updates. We also backported the Android-specific security updates from Firefox 111.

We use this opportunity to update various components of Tor Browser as well:

NoScript 11.4.18

Tor Browser 12.0.4 (Approx 115mb)
