Guys, I just switched from EasyOS. I used to love it for its simplicity and the instant overview of available disks, partitions, and media right on the desktop — even the floppy drive!
Unfortunately, EasyOS is a bit limited when it comes to web browsing, so I decided to switch to Puppy.
I’ve just done a fresh install on a HDD, but I can’t get my floppy drive to show up on the desktop.
The "floppy" module is loaded and "lsblk" lists fd0 in the Terminal. I would love to have fd0 icon on the desktop just like I had in EasyOS.

Hm. Mmm.....well, I haven't used a floppy drive for about 30 years, but if I'm right this can be sorta "fixed" with the Event Manager. Which Puppy (and version) are you using?
Never hurts to give us as much info as you can; despite that most Puppies tend to run very much the same, there can be differences between specific versions, y'see...

I'm not in BWP64 ATM, but I think it manages drives like other Puppies. If you right-click on any drive icon on the desktop, choose "Run desktop Drive Icon Manager". You'll get a window something like this:-
About halfway down there's a check-box for a floppy-drive icon. This is only 'active' IF a floppy drive exists and is detected; otherwise, it's 'greyed-out'. If you click on this, from what I understand you will then have a permanent floppy drive icon on the desktop.....which will remain there even if the floppy drive is disconnected.
Make sure to tick the check-box for "Refresh/realign existing icons", and THEN click "OK". When the drive icons reappear, you should also have the new icon showing.
I could be wrong, but I think this is about the only way you'll get a floppy icon on the desktop. Let us know if that works, please....
Mike.

You could mount /dev/fd0 to /mnt/fd0, drag /mnt/fd0 to the desktop and then set the icon of /mnt/fd0 to something like /usr/local/lib/X11/pixmaps/floppy48.png

Hm. Sorry about that! It looks like the routine for that was likely one of the victim's of dimkr's modernising at Woof-CE over the last couple of years. Floppies haven't been in general use for a very long time, so the code was extraneous.....and surplus to requirements. Let's get rid of it!
I'm guessing that's how the train of thought went. trapster's advice should work, though. It just involves a bit more manual stuff, that's all.....but it could probably be automated via script.

I also think it’s doable. I can mount a floppy disk in the terminal and then access it through ROX Filer. But honestly, there’s something way worse than just missing an icon on the desktop. I’ve explained it in a separate thread.
