Hello everybody:
Slimjet gives you the option to keep it running in the background.- I don't know if other browsers do the same, but this is an interesting option for me.
This is not a scientific test, but I am happy with this browser and it gives me what I need.
There are some errors when browsing with it, but -4 me- PROs are bigger than CONs
In EasyOS, allowing **Slimjet to run in the background** can be particularly useful due to how EasyOS handles process isolation and memory management. Here’s why I think, this browser option is interesting to use:
**Faster Startup Time** (Once it was started one time, the next ones are going to happen "in the blink of an eye")
- Keeping Slimjet running in the background reduces startup time when reopening the browser.
**Preserving Session State**
- EasyOS runs applications with a **merged filesystem** approach, meaning browser sessions can be lost if an application closes completely. Running Slimjet in the background helps maintain session data, keeping your open tabs and settings active.
**Preventing Reload Delays**
- EasyOS is optimized for low-resource usage, but sometimes reopening apps leads to slow page reloads. Keeping Slimjet running minimizes the need to reload tabs or reinitialize the browser environment.
**Integration with Background Tasks**
- If you're using Slimjet for **extensions, notifications, or background downloads**, keeping it running ensures uninterrupted functionality. This is particularly useful if you have **password managers, email notifiers, or messaging extensions**.
**Avoiding Overhead from Reinstantiation**
- EasyOS, with its containerized approach, sometimes reinitializes applications from a clean state, which can cause additional CPU and RAM usage spikes. Running Slimjet persistently prevents these frequent reinstantiations.
### Potential Downsides:
- It might **consume more RAM** if left running for long periods, but RAM is not expensive and most of us have more RAM that it is needed.
- If EasyOS is running in a low-RAM environment (e.g., older hardware), keeping a browser open in the background could slow down the system.
Of course, those are personal feelings and they could be subjective, but I am really happy with this browser, so I recomend it to all of you.
Of course, the best option is to test it, so I invite you to do it.-
This is the exec shortcut I use to start it and which gives me the best results.
Code: Select all
exec:/files/portable/Slimjet-portable64/RUN --disable-infobars --test-type --disk-cache-size=6048576000 --media-cache-size=6048576000
(take it at your own risk )
