Unable to copy file to Windows

Post by szept »

It's quite a surprise to me as it was working fine few weeks ago. I don't think I've changed anything in Easy or Windows or BIOS - no idea if any change could cause this. Any ideas how to fix it and be able to copy from Easy to Windows again?

"fast startup" on Windows can cause this problem. I have run into that before, so worth checking and turning off.

When you type 'whoami' in the terminal it should say 'root' because EasyOS uses root user.

Obviously the error report would indicate that a user 'Abra' is expected.

I haven't personally had any problems copying into folders created by Windows OS.

It may be a bootloader problem. I was having some problem recognizing drives but I switched over to the
limine bootloader (builtin to EasyOS) and I have no problems with any of partitioning of my drives.
Previously my partitions would be read only because I was trying to use grub2 or grub.

Ok, this might be a hint! I have Windows 10 and AntiX linux installed on my laptop and I used to have a grub created during AntiX installation. However I decided to removed Win10 and install Win7. I have to Win7 HP installs, so I've made a startup pendrives (with Rufus) for both of them, but only one of them actually have been starting (but then the Windows 7 startup freezes and I couldn't do anything). I realized one is a Legacy and the other one is UEFI (actully Rufus gives some indications during the process of making a startup USB, but I haven't notice it at first). I did a small research what's the difference and how it works and I found out I can change BIOS settings from UEFI to Legacy and so I did. After this I haven't seen the AntiX Grub ever again, even when I switched BIOS back to UEFI (because Legacy Windows 7 installationn failed too - I got the blue screen ;( on both Lenovo ideapad laptops which I've tried to downgrade Win10 to Win7 abd failed...). Anyway, I was thinking of installing Limine to be able to boot AntiX again, but I haven't done it yet. I guess that might fix it, right? Is it easy to install Limine and get it work? Am I right thinking that it should get me AntiX back on the grub list?

I read your post and I would recommend the limine bootloader. I booted my machine with a USB stick written with EasyOS image,
since limine can't be installed if there is a frugal install of EasyOS.
The limine.cfg is written to the partition that the MBR is written I believe. You can edit it to boot other operating systems.

However I noticed something strange. If you install limine with the GUI install program from the start menu then the instructions for the
limine.cfg file isn't mentioned (maybe there is help files somewhere)
On the other hand if you install limine from the terminal command, the instructions are printed for you in the terminal.
These are valuable since you can use cut and paste to edit the limine.cfg file.

When I boot my computer I use the bios to search for a UEFI file. I open the limine.cfg file and the list of operating systems is shown.

How do you run the Limine instal from termina?

Starting GUI gave me this:

Seems like the Win7 live USB started doign something! Just failed... Well, I assume it failed, because I left it for an hour and nothing has changed. Life isn't so easy... ;)

Anyway, funny thing happened. After I installed Limine and restarted an old AntiX's GRUB welcomed me, not Limine... Well, good enought for me, I won't be fussy about it if I can get onto AntiX again :P
Would be nice to know why thou, just for future reference :)

I am currently running Scarthgap 6.5
I type limine-installer in terminal and I get the same window you do. It doesn't seem to change the limine.cfg file when I click 'Generate'

I originally installed limine with a different version of Easy OS
