Putting together a to-do list:

1. As Caramel mentioned, clipboard in and out of container works via the button to exit and icon to flip in, but not for alt-f6 to exit or tray to enter.

2. Fix Xpad. tallboy reported this causes a crash in daedalus. It's a gtk3 tray app ...I wonder if an older gtk2 version exists, we could try that.

3. That button in centre of container desktop; have an option to move it into the tray.

4. Bump Limine version.

5. Kodi flatpak does not work, due to /run symlink. Scarthgap has flatpak 1.15.8, looking at changelog it seems there might be a fix in the latest 1.15.11

The alt-f6 button in the center is a good thing imo as it lets users know they are working inside of a container.

That may not be important for some but it's a plus for users as myself as I miss stuff sometimes so having it as an option to opt in would be cool.

Just a thought.

Thanks.

I have installed this on a USB stick - the ease of setup beats MX Linux hollow. In less than five minutes, I now have a portable persistent USB stick - something which took much longer, and with much more effort using MX Linux.

I'm now going off to DistroWatch to post a review! Keep up the good work!

Hi @Chiaseed , download the font (if compressed extract it) and move it to fonts directory (usr, share, fonts) and that's all.

It is possible u must put it into the TTF fonts folder, but I never need to do this.

I hope it works, have a nice day.

For number-3, solution:

For number-1, might treat that as a feature, not a bug.

Kodi flatpak does not work. Blog post:

https://bkhome.org/news/202412/kodi-fla ... -work.html

However, kodi flatpak would have originally worked. That was probably done in Easy Kirkstone, which has an older version of flatpak.

It looks like the flatpak developers, in trying to fix the problem, have actually broken it for EasyOS.

Easy Scarthgap has flatpak 1.15.6, the latest is 1.15.11; I wonder if the latest has a fix?

Guys,

Just wanted to report that somewhere in-between updates from version 5 (I think it might have been 5.7) to version 6 (I believe it was 6.3 or maybe from 6.3 to 6.4) my desktop settings have changed (I had this centered menu bar on the bottom of the screen and after update I'm back to the full width bottom menu bar) as well as I've lost Audacity. I don't care about the menu bar - not important right now, but I'd like to get Audacity back.

I haven't notice it straight away, cuz I'm not using Audacity very often, but I wanted to run it few days ago and it didn't run at all (when I clicked it in the start menu). I had my Audacity from the AppImage Installer and when I went there it was ticked. I uninstalled it (tick in the AppImage Installer dissapeard as well as Audacity icon in the start menu) and reinstalled. What was new is an Audacity icon appeared on my bottom menu bar as well as in the start menu, but still didn't do anything when I clicked on it (menu bar icon and start menu icon). I uninstalled it again - tick in the AppImage Installer is gone, Audacity's icon in the start menu too, but not the Audacity icon on the menu bar on the bottom of the screen...

So now 2 questions:

  1. How to get rid of an icon (not necessarily Audacity, but any icon in general - something for future) on the bar menu?

  2. How to get Audacity working again?

Cheers!
Damian

Alfons requested AnyDesk.
It will be in the next release of Easy Scarthgap, version 6.5.1, as an "orange-ball" menu entry.

Blog post:

https://bkhome.org/news/202412/anydesk- ... entry.html

Testers will be welcome to find out if it actually works.

Uhmm, not sure if I get it right, but I'm not looking for a way to remove an entry from a start menu, but an icon from the menu bar (I think that's how it's called, but maybe not, so I'll take a picture to avoid confusion) :)

Ok... so another website with apps, so I can feel even more lost:P
So far I have:
https://www.appimagehub.com
https://smokey01.com/norgo/slacko/slc64/slc64.php
https://flathub.org
Which one would be the best solution and why?
Also, there's Audacity in StarMenu => Setup => Flatpack installer
To be honest, I've got Flameshot and Shotcut as Appimages and I like that there's no need for installation, just a file I click when I want to use a program. Is portable a same/similar thing? If it's similar why is portable better than appimage?

Thanks,
Damian

It looks like you are in icon-free desktop mode.

Switch back to icons-on-desktop, and right-click on the audacity icon and delete it.

Then switch back to icon-free desktop mode.

My memory of what is going on might not be correct. If above doesn't work, let me know.

Note, best to call it the "tray" rather than "menu bar". When you posted earlier, I didn't know what you meant by menu bar.

Hi @szept , you want to delete icons from the task bar, and it is really easy.

viewtopic.php?t=12435#p136148

Find the hidden file root/.jwmrc-tray and delete the reference (line) to the icon you don't want.

Restart X and ... DONE!

About Audacity, direct link, click, download, extract and LAUNCH

Hope it helps.

Here is a funny thing, I am running EasyOS in a Virtual Machine either via qemu-system-x86_64 with vmware as display or virt-manager using virtio as display (won't accept vmware). In both cases, I have a problem: the workspaces are not accessible - can't see them. Some programs I have open all the time like Thunderbird and WhatsApp and soI move out of the first workspace.

Today (yesterday for Australia :D), on a lark, I pressed update and got updated to 6.5.1, which is unannounced. It works fine except I have the tray problem.

Alfons sent an email, he tested AnyDesk. His report:

2. Anydesk works great👍, can work on the remote system like on the local system, a perfect implementation with PKGget👍

Test with:
Scarthgap <-> Scarthgap
Scarthgap <-> Windows 10

Scarthgap <-> Scarthgap
Sessions remote <-> local, very stable
Chat remote <-> local, perfect
File transfer remote <-> local, upload/download between /home/anydesk <-> /home/anydesk
…….
Install/uninstall programs, start/stop containers,
watch youtube videos via anydesk, no problems

Note:
There was a minor problem when I move or resize the open windows (rox-filer) on the desktop, so be careful with that.

AnyDesk was announced on the blog here:

"AnyDesk orange-ball menu entry"
https://bkhome.org/news/202412/anydesk- ... entry.html

AnyDesk runs as user "anydesk", so can only write to /home/anydesk or anywhere under /files, with /files/apps/anydesk a private folder (that other apps cannot see into).

Yeah, EasyJWM currently is unable to remove that "audacity" icon in the tray.

It is a little bit awkward, but if you go back to icons-on-desktop then back to icon-free-desktop, there is a cleanup of what is in the tray.

The tray problem, actually bottom of the screen problem, is a qemu bug. I found it reported in Debian and foolishly didn't bookmark. Now, of course, I can't find it. Anyway, will discuss in qemu section.

Updated my Scarthgap 6.5 to 6.5.1. On running I ran the Daedalus 6.5.sfs in a container which I had downloaded after updating to Scarthgap 6.5. I had unistalled the Daedalus 6.4.x I had previously installed prior to Scarthgap 6.5. When checking the container, the flip to show the icon in the tray was not present, it still only had the centre screen icon available. I checked the Help details, which mentioned the tray icon information. I checked in /usr/local/easy_containers for flip-move-2-tray which was present.

I run my EasyOS using JWM as the desktop, so didn't want the icon on the screen. I changed back to ROX desktop to check, but the old icon still displays without the flip to tray icon.

Otherwise all functioning very well. Thanmk you for your ongoing development.

Serious video and input problems

Post by Federico »

Updated to v 6.5.1 and I unfortunately have to report serious problems. Video went from a full HD resolution to just 800x600 pixel, no matter how do I set it on xorgwizard, so that the desktop is unusable. Furtherly there is totally no input: no mouse and no keyboard. I can't even do CTRL+ALT+F2 to exit the X server! The only thing I can do is to keep pressed the power button to power off the system abruptedly. At the limine boot screen, I can't solve the issue by choosing the fix broken video option (it does not matter which driver and resolution I choose: it always reverts back automatically to 800x600), but if I press the e key to edit the boot configuration, I can manually type the resolution and set it to 1920x1080; in this case, the video gets fixed but still absolutely no input. If too much time elapses, the screen turns off and I can't get it back on since there is no input. Also, the network applet has a red X on it and there is no audio applet on the system tray.
Since it looks like I've been the only one to report all of this until now, this must also be somehow related to the german locale (or to non-english locales in general).
Please help!

I didn't previously check Scarthgap in a container. Just checked now and the Flip icon in Scarthgap-in-container does function as expected.

Thank you for your ongoing development.

I found something similar, Daedalus in container didn't give me the option to put the flip icon in the tray, but Scarthgap in container did...

Sorry about that. I will release Daedalus 6.5.1 tonight.

OK, I did wonder if it that was the issue. Thank you.

Re: Serious video and input problems

Same problems. I had to go back to 6.5 with the option 4 at boot. (Edit :Please note the number may be different for someone else , see the end of message viewtopic.php?p=137859#p137859)

The first error message was (approximately) :
Making the filesystem usable cp : cannot overwrite non_directory /mnt/.easy_ro/easy_sfs/var/run
ln: failed to create symlink link /var/run file exists

My hypothesis : it's related to the existence of a symlink /run in the session folder at the time of upgrade. (The symlink would come from dolphin when it has mounted partition)

@ Caramel @ BarryK

Dear Barry, dear Caramel. I'm glad that someone reported the same situation. It could be of course related to Dolphin, hence my whole family is having the problem (but it should also be noticed that I've been using Dolphin and Okular for a long time and this would be the first time that a system upate breaks the system due to them). I was thinking about using option 5, for reverting back to the latest snapshot of the previous version of the system. Does this imply any data and / or settings loss? Or does this simply revert back to the latest saved session of the previous version, retaining all data and settings? Please let me know as soon as possible.

Thank you very much in advance.
