Spup15 on intel N97

Post by Opi5b »

I've about had it with the lockdown on my Op5B. Just can't readily add/fix stuff. Many hoops...

So this black Friday/Cyber Monday i'm shopping, and found an Intel N97 mini box with 12gb
mem and NO SSD (eMMc?), Perfect for Puppy. Since this is new CPU (mid 2023) using either
intel 600 or 1200 video... will the 5.15x kernel be a problem?
Presume that the installed browser will be replaced by FF128.5 ESR.

Thanx in advance

Presuming S15Pup64:

1. maybe.... but easy to swap to a later kernel so long as you do a "frugal install" - just swap the vmlinuz & zdrv.sfs
you may also need enhanced firmware - fdrv

2. no - will always be Light - but again easy to swap the adrv for a different browser.....

Correct
6.12 hasn't been officially declared LTS as yet..... https://www.kernel.org/category/releases.html

@Opi5b - in kernels 6.11 & 6.12 you may need latest firmware if your wifi is a newer iwlwifi (i.e. wifi6 ax), as fallback no longer works.

Hello @Opi5b
12GB RAM on an Intel processor means you can boot ALL forum distros: namely WoofCEs, DOGs, KLs, and EASYs. ISO nor operational Size is not a concern on your laptop.

You have choices of forum distros with older and NEW kernels which could/would have your drivers, OOTB.

EasyOs not my type. I'll look around. I only have cd size disks at hand for iso. (700Mb max.) so a distro w/o office or browser is desired. I can fit s15.
BTW I do believe the AlderLake tech (Intel7 process) can still do x86. At least thats what I read.

Cheers

Void might be a direct drop-in if k6.6.63 used. Seems to be an aufs problem, that might be fixed in this bleeding edge kernel.
Of course s15 still possible. The 6.11 and 6.12 kernels have a feature that disallows older kitch to run in these kernels... 6.6.x does not have this problem.
