Hello everyone. I just switched to Puppy Linux Fossapup64 (F96-CE) yesterday. And since then I am facing certain problems.

In a nutshell, i can't install apps somehow.I just want to install Wine, Steam, Telegram and Spotify. But every time I try to use Package Manager my screen froze
Image

I tried doing it by using Terminal. I typed

Code: Select all

pkg add steam

Code: Select all

pkg add spotify

Code: Select all

pkg add wine

Somehow i managed to install Steam but whenever i try to open it, it says

I tried Quickpet but there was only Spotify. But the biggest comedy is when I typed my username and password it said

I also tried it by setting up from GPkgdialog 2.0 but the return is the same. Can anyone help me please?

Nvidia Geforce 920M 4 GB RAM Intel i5
Linux 6.0.12-FP FossaPup64 latest version. This my first time typing in a forum so if you need more infos or if I have done something wrong please lmk.

Welcome to Linux software! :welcome:

First we need to know how you have F96-CE_4 installed?

A live install on a USB stick or a frugal install on a drive?

Have you done an initial boot and 1st shutdown making a save?

How much free space is in the save?
Hover the mouse pointer over the icon, right side of the desktop tray, that will tell you personal storage space info.

For F96-CE you will have better luck installing software that is available in the Additional Software section of this forum.

First read this about adding software:

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

Typed it where and for what reason?

You run Puppy Linux as the root user and do not need to use a username and password.

Switched from What? Have you ever run a Puppy before? Most are not like other Linuxes. And please provide the make, model and amount of RAM your computer has. Before getting 'deep into the weeds' with F96 --which actually is my currently preferred Puppy-- if you are familiar with debian or Ubuntu Linuxes I suggest you try Bookworm64 or VanillaDpup. Both offer apt/synaptic as Package Managers. Or consider running one of the 'debian dogs' or Kennel Linuxes you'll find on this Forum. These are much closer to 'standard Linux'.

About Telegram, see this thread, https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewto ... 14#p124814

Generally, Puppys, themselves, are not multi-user. Steam is a 32-bit application. To run it under a 64-bit operating system such as F96 you'll need to first SFS-load the 32-bit Compatibility SFS. I'll leave it to others to discuss all the problems --and suggested solutions--running Steam under Puppys presents.

The easiest way to run Wine under Puppys is to use MikeWalsh's portable-wine: https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewto ... 075#p68075 or https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?t=10955

Thanks, actually this is my first time using Linux. Yes I have installed latest version on official website and ran it on my hard disk.
Yes I did save it and I have more than 3 GB of free space. I think that should be enough for these programs.
I also read your topic and tried but it's still the same. Do you think something specific that causes this problem?

No I mean I typed them to Spotify app. For some reason even tho I put my right information it says wrong and doesn't make me log in.

I cannot help you with Spotify.

Follow this topic on how to get Steam installed and working.

hi asdasqwasfamanas

the image of your package manager doesn't show for me, can yo be more specific what you tried and more detailed about what the results were? maybe one problem at a time?

pkg add is a freebsd command that I would not expect to work with linux,
