EasyOS_scarthgap or EasyOS_daedalus? What is your choice.

Post by pp4mnklinux »

Hello everybody:

First of all, as some of you know, I am using both now, more time with daedalus, but more comfortable with scarthgap.

These oppinions about both systems are wrong so they were deleted

The information linked to is wrong, very wrong!

EasyOS Scarthgap has nothing to do with Ubuntu.
The packages are compiled in a fork of OpenEmbedded.
In other words, Scarthgap is independent, built with packages compiled from source.

The OpenEmbedded build system is on github:
https://github.com/bkauler/oe-qky-scarthgap

Note that packages versions in Scarthgap are mostly more recent than Daedalus.

Ok, my error then, so I'll tell them to delete it.

Please, can u (as developer) write a similar post (but correct) so users can compare both systems and know more about them and the advantages of each one.

We all will be thankful, 😉

Thanks

Have you tried QV (Quantum Vis / Quirky Void)? :thumbup2:

I'd love to. Is it a puppy distro? Is it an O.S. ? What is it?

Can you post the link here and explain a little bit what Must I do with it?

Can you post some screenshot and some characteristics?

Thanks a lot for your comment @bugnaw333

Hello Forums,

I'm using both and both are working great for what I do which is basic web searching.

Easy OS Daedalus seems to run a bit faster and that I believe may be the fact it is systemd free.

Okay that's my take on these two distros.

Thanks Barry K. for all that you do so that we can have these great Linux distros. :thumbup2: :thumbup2: :thumbup2:

As @tammi806 said, I am using both.

I tried to use daedalus as main system but I forgot it definitely.-

I definitely prefer EasyOS Scarthgap over EasyOS Daedalus. While Daedalus shows potential, it’s still in the development phase and has quite a few bugs that make it less reliable. Scarthgap, on the other hand, is much more stable and suits my needs perfectly.

One issue I’m facing with EasyOS Daedalus is that it doesn’t recognize all my hard drives on startup. I have to do a 'restart x' each time for them to appear on the screen. It’s a bit inconvenient and definitely something I hope gets fixed in future updates (of course that depends on @barryk but I hope he considers it important).

Like Tammy mentioned, Daedalus gives the impression of being faster, but when I check it objectively, it’s actually not the case. It feels smoother, but the real performance doesn't seem to match up with that initial impression. My data using hard info.

SCARTHGAP.- Fibonacci.- 0.30
CPU blowfish 3.22

DAEDALUS.- Finonacci 0.37
CPU blowfish 3.21

So the feelings make daedalus faster, but data don't ;)

Let's see the way they go..

Have a nice weekend.-

CHEERS

N.B.- scarthgap cap.

Wow that's a lot of hard drives.

I don't even have an internal hard drive.

I have Easy OS Scarthgap installed as a frugal on a PNY 16GB usb flash drive.

I have Easy OS Daedalus installed as a frugal on a PNY 16GB usb flash drive.

Processor is an Intel core 2 duo e7400 2.8GHz dual core and 8.0GB DDR3 memory with Intel integrated graphics.

I'm just a web surfer and stream Youtube videos so both of these distros work fine on my old desktop computer.

I figure Easy OS Daedalus being a RC to have some issues as most usually do and I figure that the issues will be ironed out eventually and it will work just as it should.

At this point I have no complaints with Easy OS Daedalus but at the same time I don't do all of the stuff that some users do and that can make a difference as to how well it works for others.

You also have a good weekend. :)

I think it's a bit early to make a choice. Either is likely to work just fine for me, as I am also not a "power user" and my daily driver is still Dunfell on a USB stick because it boots in 35 seconds and does everything I need it to do most of the time. But I am having fun playing with each new offering and at some point one of them will take over as my primary OS. I am fortunate to have several old desktops and laptops to experiment with, and I mostly surf the web, get my email, and process pictures with GIMP. When I find something that won't work with Dunfell I just use Kirkstone or now Scarthgap and perhaps Daedalus will end up being the best option. I'm just happy to have an alternative to Windows! Can't thank Barry enough for that!

My choice would be "depending in what you want to do with it".
Primarily you need to consider this >
Do you need to use the latest or near latest for a specific reason, such as after major bugfixes or prerequisites for a piece of software you must use;
or have you come across a piece of software that interests you and haven't tried or considered using as a better alternative to something else;
or is it that it doesn't have to be the latest, just already available and (mostly) heavily tested and fixes instituted for bugs.

EasyOS_scarthgap or EasyOS_daedalus? BOTH, haha

Post by pp4mnklinux »

Hey everyone! It's totally human to slip up, innit?

But I don’t reckon it’s a “mistake”—more like a sign that both scarthgap and daedalus are dead useful and pretty similar for what I need.

I'm working with EasyOS_daedalus today and I'm feeling well chuffed; it’s meeting all my needs perfectly.

Really comfy with how it’s working, and it's a proper handy product, congrats @BarryK

So, what are we using... EasyOS_scarthgap or EasyOS_daedalus?

Well, no stress using either of them! In fact,

I've got a version of EasyOS_scarthgap just for browsing, trying to get the hang of Vivaldi as my browser—hoping to get the same good vibes I had with Slimjet.

Have a cracking day!

Hello everybody:

Yesterday I asked about How to clean EasyOs of unuseful files (viewtopic.php?t=9971).

Reading the answers, I decide to do a copy of all the easyos_scarthgap directory, save it at other disk and delete the original, so now I am working with daedalus and a mod of daedalus called daedalusnet.

I share it here in case you wanna comment anything.

Cheers.
