Trays "deleted" by JWM Desk Manager?(SOLVED)

Post by WoodLark »

I edited .jwmrc-tray to add a tray at the top of the desktop. When I had gotten it looking like I wanted, I restarted JWM then I opened JWM Desk Manager to change the icon layout. I selected "Bare-No Desktop Icons" thinking this would remove all of the icons but leave the two trays. It did remove the icons, but also both trays.

I looked at .jwmrc-tray again, and all my edits had been removed, but without any backup. The original pre-edit state of .jwmrc-tray was left (bottom tray), but the bottom tray was not there.

I double-checked .jwmrc, and it still contains an "include" for .jwmrc-tray.

(Fossapup64 running in Virtualbox with 8GB ram and 80GB virtual hard drive. Host is BionicPup64 with 32GB ram.)

The Icon Layout program needs to have a warning to first click on save your custom arrangement, before making any changes.
That gives you a backup.
This program is getting old and has not been improved, was not designed for having more than one tray.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

You are correct. I had missed that thread (which got off topic and kind of ugly). The last couple post look like a solution though.

This worked for me:

I think the cleanest solution is to change /etc/xdg/templates/_root_.jwmrc

Adapt <Include>/root/.jwmrc-tray</Include> so that it includes your customized and renamed file (e.g. jwmrc-grey :) ). Then run fixmenus and jwm -restart.
The JWMDesk can do whatever it likes to .jwmrc-tray, it just wouldn't matter since .jwmrc would ignore it.
