I search equivalent app's in Android

Post by oui »

Hi, I would like to adapt my phone to Puppy and search equivalent applications for our goodies like mtpaint, mhwaveedit, osmo, etc... Perhaps that such a list of acceptable applications already exists?

That sounds like a potentially great project that fits well, in my opinion, with project aims on this forum. There have often been threads seeking to run Puppy itself on android phones, but it perhaps does make more sense to instead make a look-alike via actual android apps and even more so if avoiding Google Play store via the likes of F-droid?

It would be cool to make an actual AndroidPup. One that is Puppy-like only based on Android so it could natively run android apps. I will say having some experience with the 3 more popular android for x86, that they tend to leave lot to be desired as a daily use desktop system. They are mostly useful to run particular Android-only apps. Android is very app centric. PrimeOS probably has the best desktop for x86. But be so nice if say BlissOS which is upto android 13 could be Puppy-ized and made so it can run some linux apps. I think easier to maybe run linux apps on android, than android apps on linux. I have never really tried since I mostly just wanted to run Kindle4Android since the Kindle4PC not working in WINE anymore. Android run frugally is pretty simple way to do Kindle without windows. Run bare metal like that its pretty fast even on minimal hardware. Doesnt mean all android apps going to run well on an x86 hardware. Most android apps are compiled to run on ARM hardware, so run on x86 have to use Houdini or equivalent to run. Now suppose if you could come up with AndroidPup that could run on variety of ARM hardware.... Yea gets complicated and above my pay grade I think.

There is an existing PuppyOS that runs on ARM processors ........... only for Raspberry Pi devices

There is a compiler for ARM processors:
