How to troubleshoot my fujitsu laptop kernel issue ?

Post by dcung »

I'm revisiting this issue.
viewtopic.php?p=124079#p124079

Since then, I was hoping after few iteration of (later) kernels, it would 'resolve' itself.
But it was not.

Each time I refreshed my Dog sets, I tested the fujitsu (in addition to my other piles of laptops, some are way older than the fujitsu - still work).
Any kernel later than k-6.7.9-amd64 (many versions tested), (sid or trixie) does not work on my fujitsu.

I also made builds using online stock mklive & conf (DDOG, Openbox) to eliminate possibility my mod is causing problem.

All tests showed that unless I use/swap any (later) build with k-6.7.9 (or earlier), it's not working. Black screen, need hard poweroff.
I can't get much looking at the screen (too fast - it gets past populating /dev and then black screen). Not much looking at the changes dir too, not a lot there.

I also tested KLV-Airedale to get more clue, since I saw it has versions before and after k-6.7.9
As suspected,
KLV-Airedale-sr11 Kernel 6.7.5_1 - works okay
KLV-Airedale-sr12 Kernel 6.8.4_1 - not working, finish (sloooooooow) booting, frozen
KLV-Airedale-sr13 Kernel 6.9.1_1 - not working, not finish booting
KLV-Airedale-sr14 Kernel 6.9.6_1 - not working, not finish booting, /boot.log empty.

I took some pictures from (sr14) - (with Dogs, it's too fast to take pics)
It's at difference stages of (sloooow) unfinished booting.

Scouring the net for other people's 'black screen' issues, I have tested these kernel parameters (individually).
#i915.modeset=0 i915.enable_dc=0 intel_idle.max_cstate=5
#i915.enable_fbc=1 and i915.enable_fbc=0
#video=SVIDEO-1:d nomodeset

I'm not even sure it's i915 related, since I have 2 other laptops with i915 (with subtle difference no doubt), and I can use any of my build/kernel versions.
I have also varied few BIOS setting to see if it makes any difference.

I'm trying to find a clue what is this fujitsu not happy about in the newer kernel (?).

Well...today is the day it seems...'it resolved itself'

I saw @fredx181 updated Trixie stuff
viewtopic.php?p=132215#p132215

So, I refreshed my Trixie isos...
And...it works on the fujitsu now.. :D
Kernel k-6.10.11-amd64

So, I can close this.
