Could Puppy Linux Be the Cause For Some Calibre Problems? (solved)

I'm no doubt the problem since I just don't know enough how to do certain things.

Has anyone been able to get Calibre ebook viewer to show page numbers? I tried to do this following one site that gave very detailed information to do this. But I couldn't get it to work. The same happened to me when I tried to get the ebook viewer to use dark mode.

I'm hoping that someone using one of the versions of puppy linux can confirm they have been able to for either or both of these things. I want to make sure it just isn't an issue that puppy linux may have for this.

I'm trying to do this with BookwormPup64_10.0.6 and Calbre 7.11.
I am able to read ebooks successfully with Calibre. It's a great application. But I would sure like it to do a bit more.

It's amazing how easy things are when you know how! - You can quote me on that.

I finally figured out how to make the e-reader work in dark mode.
From the E-book viewer,
<Right click> This brings up "Quick Start Guide"
<Select Preferences> This brings up "Configure book reader"
<Select Colors> This brings up "Choose a color scheme below"
<Select Black or the different color schemes> This changes the theme that the e-reader will use for all ebooks.

When I was researching how to do this, I guess the older versions required adding an Environmental setting.
I was starting to think that maybe Puppy just wouldn't do it so tried LMDE Linux and the same thing happened.
But the newer version now has the above way to do it - I just needed to find my way around to find how.

Sure this is not your problem?

Occasionally, you may find that some eBooks don't feature page numbers, due to the way that the book has been created electronically by the publisher for enhanced accessibility (usually this is referred to as EPUB format).

Usually something in the actual program affects how it displays.
Settings in the program.

If program seems to be running OK.
It is not Puppy Linux causing the issue.

You can start the program from the terminal and see if any info is given about errors or missing needed dependency stuff.

Ok, I can now get page number I'm on and total number in book.
This also is done by the Preferences
In Viewer
<Right Click> Brings up menu
<Select Preferences>
<Select Headers and footers>
<Select Footer><Middle> <Position in book>
Now I get what I want

All this was learning where to go and to not assume older information is current to what you have. It's so easy to jump to conclusions.

On the rare occasions when I bother with eBooks, I usually convert 'em to PDF format, and read them that way.....

SO much simpler.

Is that because you can use almost anything to read it?
