Hi @bigpup,

You have made good progress with this problematic topic. I too find it strange that getnvidia-1.5.1 did not include the desktop
file but it is an old package not modified in years and possibly not fully suitable for Debian Bookworm.
It is an easy task to edit the pet but before I do that ask that you do a full ListDD system scan to ensure that
we are not missing anything Nvidia related by not using the the "nvidia-settings version 525.125.06-1-deb12u1" Debian package.
There is no hurry as I want to explore another possible solution.

I did a ListDD check on:
Nvidia driver package that was installed.
A specific check of the nvidia-settings program in /usr/bin/

Nothing missing.

Would be good to see, others reporting on results of doing the install of the driver pet, the way I did.

How I did it:
viewtopic.php?p=102581#p102581
Just doing the 4 steps.

I have made many setting changes, using the nvidia-settings program, provided by your pet.
All working OK.
Warning:
NEVER USE THE OPTION TO HAVE IT MAKE A NEW XORG.CONF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That will replace the working Puppy xorg.conf and brake booting process.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

Hi @bigpup

Yesterday just out of curiosity, I took a stab at the Debian route but nothing I tried worked.
Today I replaced the pet on GD with a modified version that includes your missing desktop file
The link is the same:
LINK TO PET: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing

That was thoroughly tested on a fresh install to another partition and worked a treat.
Everything in the Nvidia settings GUI seems to be present.
Hardware video decoding is working in chrome and nvdec is being used by mpv for IP TV streams.

With regard to your 4 step solution I would suggest that you make it 5 with the first step being.

Step1: Visit this link https://www.nvidia.com/download/driverR ... 351/en-us/ and check on
the "Supported Products" tab that your card is listed.

This is your thread so I will fall in with your wishes. Please let me know if & how you wish me to edit
my original post dated Wed Nov 01, 2023 when you post the final solution.
