BionicPup64 setup: 'problems' with libstdc++.so.6 (Solved)

Post by Makoto »

I've just set up BionicPup 64 (8.0), frugal install (alongside the XenialPup 32 frugal install I've been using), and have installed the 32-bit compatibility SFS and rebooted (more than once since then)... but Steam and some other programs still complain about a missing libstdc++.so.6.

Steam:

Calibre 3.48.0 (yes, I know it's not the latest version):

Code: Select all

RuntimeError: Failed to load icu with error: libstdc++.so.6: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
rar:

Code: Select all

rar: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.6: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64

Is Bionicpup64 a full or frugal install?

The Quickpet->Useful->32bit compatibility sfs is designed for loading into a frugal install.
You are suppose to be able to install it into a full install, but it is really designed for frugal installs.

but Steam and some other programs still complain about a missing libstdc++.so.6.
For Steam
Quickpet icon on desktop.
Run Quickpet->Info->Bionicpup updates.
Reboot so changes are now being used.
Good idea to do this twice, if you have never done it.

May be good to go into Puppy Package Manager(PPM)
PPM->Uninstall
Uninstall what you did install for Steam, so you start fresh.

Get Steam from Quickpet->Fun
it will download and install Steam packaged for Bionicpup64.
It will also go into a bunch of other terminal displayed downloads and installs of other stuff.
When it all completes.
Should be able to run Steam from menu->Fun

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

Frugal, as I mentioned above (it's installed alongside my existing XenialPup32 frugal install).

For Steam
Quickpet icon on desktop.
Run Quickpet->Info->Bionicpup updates.
Reboot so changes are now being used.

I've probably done it about five to ten times, now. :(
May be good to go into Puppy Package Manager(PPM)
PPM->Uninstall
Uninstall what you did install for Steam, so you start fresh.

Get Steam from Quickpet->Fun
it will download and install Steam packaged for Bionicpup64.

Okay, I'll try uninstalling it. I'd originally downloaded it from quickpet, though.

Edit: Uninstalled Steam and reinstalled it from quickpet. Now, it's added another filename to the list:

Edit 2: Okay, I seem to have found the problem. I did have the 32-bit compatibility SFS downloaded from quickpet - but for some reason, it wasn't active/being used. :oops: Got it running, and Steam and the other programs are no longer complaining.
(Don't recall having this problem with the 32-bit compatibility SFS on XenialPup64, but eh.)
