Re: EasyOS Kirkstone-series version 5.8.3

I have been using firefox in previous versions of Easy up to 5.8.1 no issues. I upgraded to 5.8.3 and firefox executable could not be found. I updated firefox and still the same. Downgraded back to 5.8.1 and firefox works fine.

I personally have no interest or desire to use chromium.

When I get ...

Re: NEW SERIES

Unlike most of the more popular (and much larger) distros EasyOS is a one-man project. It is also a fast-moving evolving project, and that would not happen if Barry had to support older versions as well. I think of the different versions as the next rolling release. Certainly Arch doesn't support ...

Re: New AppImage Installer GUI app

An appimage I have been using in EasyOS is LibreCAD.

https://github.com/LibreCAD/LibreCAD/releases

It runs fine from a terminal.

I have run others in earlier versions of Easy. I will test them and post later.

Re: Thinking about the logo

FWIW I like the name EasyOS. It's easy to set up and run. I also like the old logo. It shows Easy's puppy heritage which is important.

Think about other distro names. What does Debian mean? It's from the first names of the founder and his (then) wife/girlfriend. Slackware? From a parody religion ...

I was referring to firefox installed through the menu "Download latest Firefox", which appears to be independent of PPM.

Re: EasyOS version 3.2.1 released

Still a bizarre way to upgrade. Also, I do not see how to uninstall firefox when installed through the "Download Firefox" menu item, short of deleting the directory.

I have currently set up my profile in a location outside of /home/firefox so it doesn't get deleted in future. I just have to relink ...

nevamaor, ther was a note referance on what to do about this before you upgraded on barry's easyos page.

Hmm, only note I see is uninstall firefox before upgrading. Does that somehow retain the profile whereas not uninstalling it doesn't?

Re: Any interest in EasyArch, built from Arch Linux packages?

I used Arch for years until the switch to systemd. I would likely still be using it but for that (my system started running less stable after the switch, so I switched). I would be interested in playing around with EasyArch when ready.

Re: EasyOS version 3.2.1 released

I upgraded from 3.2 and it works no problem. Note I had to make sure the laptop was set to internal sound and not HDMI to have sound work straight away. No upgrading if connected to my TV :)

One problem -- I had been using firefox installed through the menu and set to default. After upgrading I had ...

Re: EasyOS 3.1.13 released

FWIW I have no interest in using Chrome (or chromium). I would be going back to using a manual install of Firefox if Chrome is the default.

Just my personal preference, highly coloured by Chrome's insidious marketing efforts when first introduced.

Re: No sound in EasyOS Dunfell (Fixed itself)

I upgraded from 3.1.11 to 3.1.13 and had to go through this again to get sound working properly. This time I could not get anything BUT my internal speakers to work until manually editing asound.conf.

Next time I upgrade I will change defaults to the internal speakers and disconnect from HDMI and ...

Re: No sound in EasyOS Dunfell

So, I gather those defaults are changed by the multiple sound card wizard because after playing around with it they were back to card 0, device 3.

But, for whatever reason, I now get sound out of the internal speakers when I set default to PCH. So, whatever happened, it fixed the problem :thumbup ...

Hi FeodorF , thanks for replying.

In EasyOS Buster asound.conf

defaults.pcm.card 1
defaults.pcm.device 0
defaults.ctl.card 1
#SND_HW_PROFILE='1+pci+8086:9ca0'

In EasyOS Dunfell asound.conf

No sound in EasyOS Dunfell (Fixed itself)

Ok, as I mentioned in the EasyOS 3.0 thread I have no sound from my internal speakers in 3.0.

As it turns out, I was wrong in thinking this was a change from 2.9. I had backed up the 2.9 hd setup I upgraded to 3.0 so I booted into that and discovered the same issue. I guess I hadn't run Dunfell ...

Re: EasyOS version 3.0 released

This installs into the home directory.

I should have been more specific. It installs into the home directory of the user running the script, not the EasyOS "Home" (now files) directory.

In my case I just put it in /root, then run-as-spot from there. On reflection that may cause issues with ...

I didn't package firefox, I folowed the manual install instructions from their website.

Download Firefox from the Firefox download page to your home directory.
Open a Terminal and go to your home directory:

cd ~

Extract the contents of the downloaded file:

tar xjf firefox-*.tar.bz2 ...

Re: EasyOS version 3.0 released

Ran the update on EasyOS 2.9 on my hard drive. Went smoothy and everything seemed fine on reboot.

Tried firefox (I run as spot) and got no sound. I tend to have an hdmi cable running from my laptop to my tv, so sound is typically set to hdmi. I checked the multiple sound app and had to reset to ...

Re: EasyOS version 3.0 released

I've been using EasyOS off and on (with FatDog) for a while now (since Quirky 0.8.6?). Read with interest your changes to 3.0. I keep trying out other linuxes (MX, alpine, void, etc) but now I keep coming back.

First, I dd'ed to a USB and booted. Did the setup and it all went smoothly. Set up the ...
