Opera browser does not roll up with menu bar?

First, if I am using the wrong term "roll up", that may be why I am not getting results from my searches...

With both FF and Chromium on Fossa64 I can put the mose on the title bar and rull up to "window shade" the prograam. Once again, that may not be the proper term.

For some reason when I fiddle with the Opera browser it does not work. Is it something I can enable somewhere? I do have Opera up to date. It is pretty slick that the Browser downloads a .deb so it is a easy upgrade. You do need to open a roxfiler window though. If you try to install from the downloads button in the browser it gives you a password request during install.

If you simply find your downloads folder via the desktop home button you can click and install as expected.

Thanks for your time.

I think what you are asking about is having the browser window going to just the window tittle bar.
Place the mouse cursor on the bar and move the scroll wheel up and all you now see is the desktop and the tittle bar.
Move scroll wheel down and browser is back to normal display.

This is a feature of the Window manager being used that is part of Puppy Linux.
Firefox and other browsers are displayed in a window provided by the Puppy window manager.
So they have this feature.

Opera seems to be using it's own window display management.
This feature is not in it.

Thanks so much! I love that feature. I constantly catch myself trying to use it on my Windows desktops too... 🤦‍♂️

@theroar84 / @bigpup :-

Mm-hm. As Bigpup says, Opera seems to be doing its own thing here.

For most of the Chromium-based 'clones' - including the most well-known clone of all (Chrome itself) - there is usually the option, under Settings->Appearance, to

Image

"Use system title bar and borders". This gives you back JWM's title bar and borders, along with the ability to 'shade' the browser window if required, just as you can any other app, really. But for reasons best known to themselves, the Opera team seems to have decided this one isn't necessary in their browser!!

As demonstrated here:-

Clear as mud, eh?

Has nothing to do with Opera in particular. I noticed the lack of classic window decoration in other applications and complained here. CSD is the name of the game (Client-side decoration)

From Wikipedia: " Client-side decoration is the concept of allowing a graphical application software to be responsible for drawing its own window decorations, historically the responsibility of the window manager. Sometimes client-side decoration is used to refer to the applications that don't have a traditional title bar."
