Odd form of freezing: mouse still moves but clicking does nothing

Post by x-lksk »

I can still move my mouse just fine, and the clock and the graph for memory usage continue to update normally. However, all forms of input have no effect; no matter what or where I click, or what I press on the keyboard, or how long I wait, I am unable to do anything. Also, the menu that seemingly triggered this is not going away.

Not actually sure what caused this; it happened suddenly just from opening up the Menu via the button in the lower left. Menu froze on the Filesystem submenu, if it matters. Pale Moon was open and on the screen, Discord and one of the text editors are also opened behind it, and memory was lowish, and the computer had been running for a while. All of this I've done before without issue so I am particularly baffled by it happening now. Would provide more information if I could, but I pretty much only have access to the current contents of my screen right now; typing this via my phone. Anyone know anything about this, or anything I could possibly do to fix it short of just resetting?

Update: I could plug my phone into the computer to trigger the popup about whether I would like to use my phone as a modem. However, like with everything else I can not interact with this popup in any way that I can see.

It may just be one of the weird things computer sometimes do.
Try restarting it .
For a desktop holding the power button should work
For a laptop holding ctrl alt power button until it shutdown should work

What Puppy version?

Installed how and on what type drive?

What version of Pale Moon browser?

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

(Note: I have since restarted my computer)

bionicpup64 8.0, as said in my signature

Installed via a flash drive, running from RAM. 3.6 GiB total storage, though it was down to about 1.2 GiB remaining unused at the time things broke.

Pretty sure it was the current version of Pale Moon: 31.1.0

What version of Pale Moon browser?

I'm with Bigpup on this...I like Palemoon...but depending on the release version...sometimes it eats my RAM & freezes other
apps...killing it then all is OK.

Latest version of Pale Moon is 32.4.1

For sure you need to be using it.

Should be able to update using Pale Moon internal update feature.

The version around 30 and 31 had bad bugs in them, because a former developer of Pale Moon put bad code in it.
Version 31 was the fix, but all of it did not get cleaned out until version 32.

Bionicpup64 8.0 has several updates from the release version.
Program Quickpet ->Info -> Bionicpup updates

A few were stability issue fixes.
