@boof - with HPs you should be able to access the scanner via your browser. If it is wireless/ethernet, just input the ip address in the top bar.
from browser-ff or chrome, how pls? usb connected.how to access usb port, syntaxpls? usb port

iff scanner is /dev/ttys0, then i shoud mount it as such, then access it by how pls
not in /etc/fstab - fle emply.
i think it's fixed, loaded hplip and printer driver, XSANE gets values, looks ok, works, not bad for a reebie. cartrige u/s, but i have the brother mono laser.
