Need an ATI HD5750 graphics driver for F96CE4 (Google Earth display issue)

F96ce4 runs fine on my machine. Only one problem-
When I run Mike Walsh's Googleearth portable it runs but only with the little black square in the top left corner. So I need a proprietry driver for my ATI Radeon HD5750 graphics card.
Downloaded the AMD Catalyst driver (AMD-Catalyst-15.9-Linux-installer-15.201.1151-x86.x86_64.run) from AMD's site and installed the devx_fossapup64_9.6.sfs & kernel_sources_fossapup64_9.6.sfs.

Running the ATI installer it fails with this message:-

"error: Detected X Server version 'XServer 1.20.13_64a' is not supported. Supported versions are X.Org 6.9 or later, up to XServer 1.10 (default:v2:x86_64:lib32:XServer 1.20.13_64a:none:6.0.12-FP:)
Installation will not proceed.
Removing temporary directory: fglrx-install.z3AcHf"

A bit above my paygrade I'm afraid. Any advice gratefully received.

I did some searching for anything about this error.

Could not find anything that maybe would help you.

I tried running Mike Walsh's Googleearth portable.

When it first startes, I think I am getting the screen you say.

Went to full screen mode and the display opened up to full screen display.

I am using the nouveau generic driver for Nvidia hardware and Google Earth is working OK for me.

Should be OK with the Radeon driver that is provided in F96-CE_4

Check Pup-Sysinfo -> Devices -> Display make sure you are using the Radeon driver.

Is your computer a desktop?

@Bigpup
Thanks for the reply.
Tried the enter full screen mode - no change.
X-Org version is 1.20.13 and driver used is radeon - I don't think nouveau would work for an AMD card.
Yes, the computer is a desktop (tower) purchased in 2010 and still running well.
On the brighter side Googleearth online works ok, but seems to have fewer features, and wants you to log in to Google Drive if you want to save locations for future reference. I'm not a fan of Google and refuse to do this.
I'll keep Bionic 8.0 available - Google Earth Works fine in that - with the radeon driver!

Of course not!
That info was to tell you that the generic drivers seem to work OK.

If the Bionicpup provided Radeon driver is working OK with Google Earth.

The Radeon driver in F96CE_4 should work too.
It is the same or newer Radeon driver.

If the Google Earth, that runs OK in Bionicpup, is the same one you are trying to use in F96CE_4. Are they the same version?

Maybe you just got a bad download of it.

Maybe some setting in Google Earth needs changed.

GE used is Mike Walsh's portable, so identical for both.
Been having a poke around in F96CE4.
Pupsysinfo & Startup Manager (Boot Manager) both show Radeon AND Amdgpu as loaded modules. Is this normal, or do I have two conflicting graphic drivers loaded?
Tried blacklisting Amdgpu, saved & rebooted - no difference.
Tried restoring Amdgpu and blacklisting Radeon - screen resolution reduced from 1920 X 1080 to 1280 X 1024 with no others available, but google earth worked.
Not happy with the screen so returned to Radeon & the higher resolution. I'll settle for that.

Thanks for the work on this.

I think you just discovered an issue with F96-CE_4 and it's support for ATI graphics hardware.

Hopefully rockedge will see this topic.

I will send a PM about this to him.

I am wondering if changing the kernel to the one Bionic64-8 is using will fix it. The driver module and firmware work in Bionic it is worth attempting to swap the kernel and see if the graphics improves with Google Earth on F96-CE_4

The Bionic64-8 kernel and firmware+modules are more inline with the machines era, which could be the difference and if does work in F96-E_4 which it should, it would be a quick way to get good results........
