Wayland - replacement for X windowing system

Moderator, if this is in the wrong place then please move it -
I have often seen posts relating to Wayland -
Not understanding them, too technical for my 'key pusher' brain, I decided to look into the subject -
This article, to me, was most interesting and informative -
Now I can 'listen', almost, in the same language -
Thinking that there might be others in the same boat as me I offer the web sight -

Here we go again -
I agree that changing the thread title to be more in keeping with the subject matter, but -
I thought it would have been polite for a post script to be added by 'the changer' as to who changed it and why -
Or am I just being old fashioned? -
Best regards

Append-um to my previous post -
I quote verbatim from Frequently Asked Questions - User Levels and Groups -
Quote "What are Moderators?
Moderators are individuals (or groups of individuals) who look after the forums from day to day. They have the authority to edit or delete posts and lock, unlock, move, delete and split topics in the forum they moderate. Generally, moderators are present to prevent users from going off-topic or posting abusive or offensive material." End quote -
I think that "and the moderator(s) will give identity and reason for taking such action" should be added -
Then we wouldn't find ourselves in this situation again -
What say you -
Best regards

IMO any alteration to a forum member's post, other than by that member themself should include reason for the alteration - at least a few short words to that effect. This is a forum and not a Wiki that might well benefit for grammar fixes and so on - no harm in these (if validly done) but personally I've always taken exception to most any changes to technical posts, by anyone other than the original poster, since meanings can also accidentally be altered and unintended ambiguities or errors introduced (and thus a dangerous practice sometimes). At very least, in other cases, a simply remark of why the change, seems appropriate to me, and thus forum rules could indeed stipulate the necessity of that to all moderators.
Indeed I occasionally check moderator logs and more often than not am curious why a post was altered, but alas often find no reason supplied. Being a 'grammar' policeman is only appropriate when grammar errors are obvious, but having a first language knowledge isn't necessarily a good qualification for making such changes. As for topic titles - well, that may often be a matter of opinion as to what is 'best'.
Having said all that, moderators are not paid for the regular work they do and the forum would become a mess without their voluntary activities.

@Chelsea80 :-
Interesting article. Thanks!
(Just so's you know, I had nothing to do with "editing" your thread.)
Mike.

I am not disputing what @ wiak said
moderators are not paid for the regular work they do and the forum would become a mess without their voluntary activities
To my mind this is essential to any forum -
I am challenging the anonymity of such changes -
If someone has that authority, then that someone should exercise it with a modicum of politeness -
So 'changer' what is your opinion? -

Moderators have a place to tell you what they did and why, when they edit a post.
The information will show at the bottom of the post.
We are humans and do forget sometimes to add this information.
The edit screen we use, does place the input slot off screen, and we do not see it, if we do not scroll down.
It is also below the button to submit and not seen, if do not scroll the screen.
Here is an example of what it looks like, if we provide info on the edit.

I totally agree with the first line in your post -
Moderators have a place to tell you what they did and why, when they edit a post.
However, if it is known that -
The edit screen we use, does place the input slot off screen, and we do not see it, if we do not scroll down.
It is also below the button to submit and not seen, if do not scroll the screen.
-
Are you asking me to accept that as a valid reason for the omissions? -
Or is it that 'being lazy', or 'just edit and send I don't care', or 'I don't want you to know who I am' is the real reason?
Perhaps a large text box should be put on the edit screen to read DON'T FORGET TO SCROLL DOWN - IDENTIFY AND GIVE REASON -
If someone has been entrusted to carry out such a task then that person should complete that task to the full -
Best regards

Perhaps write the code that will do it and I can test it. Otherwise since I do all of this at a monetary deficit it will be dependent if I care enough to add that in.
Does bother me though that the form field is not persistent and needs to be re-written each time there is any edit of that specific post. Maybe I'd consider fixing that and offering as a commit to the phpBB project. Unless it is intentional......but time will tell.
If someone has been entrusted to carry out such a task then that person should complete that task to the full
Since this not a professional commercial venture I am glad that anyone volunteers to do the hard task of monitoring and cleaning up the forum. To which I think a very good job is being done by the Team.

@Chelsea80, did you miss this part (emphasis mine)?

Perhaps give them some slack if they don't do what you expect every now and then?

Is it too much to ask?
chelsea80 wrote:Or is it that 'being lazy', or 'just edit and send I don't care', or 'I don't want you to know who I am' is the real reason?
Projecting.

As the forum owner said, "Perhaps write the code that will do it and I can test it."

I have not doubt that every single one of mods here have high standards and aim to meet them. That being said, this forum is not such a critical service that mistakes means people die. So stop being so serious about it.
If you think the mods make a mistake, a polite request to anyone of them to correct the mistake will go a long way. But banging the table and demanding work without compensation will not get you anywhere.

Let me try and make myself clear -
I am in no way trying to denigrate the volunteer aspect of those who give -
If an identifier and reason are not given then it places on the poster to try and find out why the post has been edited -
The facility for adding an identifier and reason already exists when the post is edited -
I am asking for that facility to be used as part of the editing process for the posters information and completion of the edit -
Best regards
