The 6-month rating is number 21. The rating usually climbs up after a new release is announced.

From Easy 5.1 have been shifting to the new logo:

https://bkhome.org/news/202303/new-logo-for-easyos.html

The idea behind the logo is "a wary little guy looking out from a safe place", in keeping with the security mechanisms in EasyOS.

Here it is 128x128:

The little guy can also be looking left or right:

@Caramel

I had similar problems a few days ago with Petget, but updating the database helped.

On the second page at Majorgeeks you have been listed Barry.

MG is a very safe site...mainly for Windows... but they also host quite a bit of Linux.

Notice to everybody!

There is a very mysterious problem with printing, the web UI http://localhost:631/admin does not work.
Yet it does in Easy 5.3.2 and every release prior, going back years.

If you have updated from an earlier installation and setup a printer, that will continue to work.
It is just the web UI that is broken.

It is a mystery because there are hardly any changes between 5.3.2 and 5.4.

Discussion about this problem is here:

viewtopic.php?t=8913

As I am very puzzled, cannot see anything to cause this problem, I plan to build 5.3.2 then progressively add the commits, as shown on github:

https://github.com/bkauler/woofq/commits/main

Painful process, but right now can't see any other way forward.

EDIT:
Got it!
See explanation of what is wrong and fix in other thread:

viewtopic.php?p=91460#p91460

I will release 5.4.1 soon, but the fix can be applied manually now if you wish.

You can fix printing manually in 5.4, see previous post.

Or, 5.4.1 now released, printing fixed.

Just click the "update" desktop icon, the update from 5.4 to 5.4.1 is only 929KB.

updating is as usual fine for 5.4.1
Got questions may it be 1 or 2 requests if possible.
-Would a delta devx update be a possibility ?
if let's say no kernel update been made !!
One reason is using my own sfs ,on updating ,i cannot see them untill i download some of the repo!!
(you can always trick it by renaming devx to newest ,then click install and you see your sfs, renaming devx to previous so you wont be confused, fine as a workaround)
-Would an optionnal ,"updates will be done on reboot , is there any previous sfs you would like to keep loading?"

Note that i installed all my sfs on "principal layer" ,i dont know if having it elsewhere change that updating behaviour of sfs management.

My montly visit on forum is not enough to follow answers...i enabled forum notifications to receive them by mail now...

Easyos is so stable !!! my first ,désolé si je décois de mes amis francais ,oui ,first of all linux i do use in french !!!
Félicitations et merci BK !!

Yes, just rename the devx sfs. Fine if not many changes in the new version.

Regarding a delta devx, don't know if I will ever get around to that.

I know that in some parts of the world you have account with your telco that has very limited data allowance per month.

Here in Australia, I have an "unlimited data" phone plan with Vodafone, and my phone as hotspot is my only means of Internet access.
When I signed on with them about 3 years ago, got 40GB at full speed (4G) dropping down to a lower speed if exceed that in the month. That was AU$35 per month.

Then they put me up to AU$45 and recently to AU$50 but increased my full-speed monthly to 80GB. Which is great, now able to watch YouTube videos without worrying that the full-speed allowance will be used up.

The point is, that as I don't have any problems with data allowance nor speed, from a personal perspective I tend to relegate something like a delta-devx very low on the to-do list.

But I sympathize with those who have limited data. If enough people tell me that they want a delta-devx then maybe I will give it a higher priority. Though, those who are into compiling usually are on good data plans I think.

Unlimited wired dsl 5 Mbit/s here ,as is my casual lifestyle ;no luxury ...
Uploading a pain ,at 0.66 ,hmmm ,you get that i am not into IT specialists business working from home...
In our partially monopolized Isp market ,in Canada ,mine is +/- CAN40$ taxes included,it's an ok price for here ,
could probably find a bit faster for the same price! does fit my budget/needs for now..

I enjoy it as it is daily!!!
but, hmmm ,i do see the complexity of it ,still ,you would be the first one offering a delta-devx ,to my knowledge !

Endless Claps & Thanks for your work BK!!!

I know that we need to take the ranking at Distrowatch with a grain of salt.

EasyOS is usually at around 20 - 22, but when a new version announced, goes up for awhile, then sinks down.

Right now, the 7-day ranking is 12:

https://distrowatch.com/index.php?dataspan=1

Still has an upward trend, so will be interesting to see where it peeks.

Indeed, the ranking is to be taken with a grain of salt. But the good comments and the good rating of the people who commented are a jewel! I'll say it again, you're amazing!

Hi Barry, this may seem like a silly question but is there any way to install i3 window manager on EasyOS along with dmenu?

I would really appreciate it if it's possible.

Possible. I think it was Thanos who recently got Openbox window manager working with Easy and he reported very pleased with it.

There would be a lot of details in getting i3 and dmenu integrated, which is too much of a diversion for me.

But yes, they could be compiled and made to work in Easy.

Version 5.4.3 is out!

See download and release notes:

http://distro.ibiblio.org/easyos/amd64/ ... 023/5.4.3/

Now have Symphytum personal database and KeePassXC password manager builtin, see blog announcements:

https://bkhome.org/news/202306/symphytu ... in-oe.html

https://bkhome.org/news/202306/keepassx ... asyos.html

The kernel 5.15.117 has new features enabled for QEMU:

https://bkhome.org/news/202306/kernel-5 ... -qemu.html

I am wondering if this kernel has introduced a rendering problem. In mtPaint, the save-as dialog window has artifacts in the window. Running with modesetting Xorg driver, intel gpu.
Let me know if you see it also.

Thanks a lot @BarryK.
I am trying now. Many of Turkish translations are missing. I will send them to the translation thread.

At console zap fonts are correct with Turkish characters. Default font is problematic and displays incorrect characters.

(EasyOS 5.4.3 Fresh install, no encryption)

No visible problem in mtPaint save-as dialog window (Card NVidia)

I wanted to try KeePassXC. I typed the password entered at first boot (password for root, i don't use encryption) and then the window closed and the icon tray has disappeared

EDIT : after new boot, the icon is reappeared and KeePassXC no longer asks for a password at startup

Hi,

I like Sympthum database much, missed it already. In Pyro I was very happy about it.

Concerning encryption, I never use, coz I cant read the contents anymore if I am using another installed EasyOS.

Would you kindly startup LibreOffice word processor and test each font, find out which ones have missing Turkish characters.

The default font depends on what app is running.

You have to enter "woofwoof", not your root password, then click the "Unlock" button.

After reboot, what happened when you clicked on the icon? Did anything come up?

You can create your own new database. The most convenient place for it is in the folder I created, /files/database/keepassxc

Yes, it would have to be another EasyOS that is running fscrypt v2, which started at version 5.3.

For Easy 5.3+ it doesn't matter if the other OS installation has a different password, when you click on the partition icon to mount it, a window pops up asking for the password.

That would be awkward, having different password, trying to remember. I have the same password for all installations.

I would like to run EasyOS in a virtual machine, without installation. I'm not asking to revive the iso, but it would be nice to run *.img in a virtual machine (qemu). Without partitioning the disk.
Is it possible? There will be a type of introductory launch. To see where scientific thought is moving. )

p.s. I don't want to use a USB flash drive.

Now KeePassXC opens without password.
The window closes after attempt to create a new database (after the tab for choices of parameters). The icon tray disappears
Clicking on KeePassXC in the menu reappears the icon tray.
Attempt of open the Passwords.kdbx in /files/database/keepassxc failed too (Close after enter woofwoof as password)

EDIT : I succeeded to create a database by choosing the format KDBX 3
