New manual frugal install on internal SSD in Dell laptop (details in Signature). A couple of minor issues. The Temperature in gatotray is shown as a constant value of 25 C, which appears to be the value of /sys/devices/virtual/thermal_zone0/temp. Is there any way to change the reference point for the temperature value to be used?

All software so far used, is running without issue. Another great addition to the Puppy Linux kennel. Thank you.

I use this cpu temp display.

cpucurtemp64
Install the sensors64x.pet.
Then install the pmcpucurt64.pet.

The cpucurtemp has a file (pmcpucurt.dsktop) placed in ~/startup/autostart
To get it running and displaying in the tray.
Restart the x server or do a reboot (make sure the install gets into the save)
Or if you want to just run it without doing any reboot.
Navigate to ~/startup/autostart and click on pmcpucurt.dsktop file.
.
sensors64x.pet

It would be helpful if you didn't use an old savefile/folder when testing as this will block out some of the changes that need testing

This was meant to be the release but there's been a few big changes so it's RC3. I'll leave this up for a week or so and if no major issues, it will be renamed 9.5 and will be the release.

changes:

kernel updated to 5.4.53 & updated firmware ...... this fixes @davids45's wifi dongle problem and is also the first kernel since bionicpup64 to boot without setting nomodeset on my desktop
xorg-autoconf by @mistfire now auto writes the xorg.conf
geany downgraded a version and is now quicker to open.
true transparency enabled in conky so no more black square
quickpet ... added lot's of .sfs and 2 nvidia drivers
browsers from quickpet now run as spot (fixes gmail login problem)
xlock fixed
claws-mail-feeds-reader added
fixed chess engine in eboard chess
@MochiMoppels gxmessage fix
fixmenus now in menu

there's an issue with picom and nouveau that can cause high cpu usage. best solution is to install the nvidia driver. if there's no driver for your card (old card) comment out # the "nouveau" line in /etc/X11/xorg.conf and restart X. This will use the modesetting driver but this has trouble setting other resolutions. If you have to use nouveau & resolution setting doesn't work (and you need it), you will have to disable picom menu>>>desktop>>jwmdesk>>window effects
true transparency enabled in conky so no more black square?
No conky
How to make conky transparent when using rc2?

i think it maybe a problem with /root/.Xresources, as i had to change it to get pmwget to work. Try changing it back to this....

original version:

Code: Select all

!*font: -misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed--13-120-75-75-c-60-*-*
!*font: -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--13-120-75-75-c-70-*-*
*font: -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--14-130-75-75-c-70-*-*
!*font: -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--15-140-75-75-c-90-*-*

Xft.dpi: 96
and see if that works.

if it does it will need looking at

I replaced content of .Xresourses and rebooted but I get the same error message.

Perhaps better if you tried xfreecell:

@666philb

I made some changes on woof-ce, recently merged:

1. xorg-autoconf - exa acceleration is now disabled for radeon wrestler architecture and some improvements for nvidia and amd gpu detection.

2. passwd, group, gshadow - Fixed group id and some revisions related to messagebus group. This was highly affects on the functionality of D-bus.

i have it near the top in a bigger font

Code: Select all

${color2}Uptime ${uptime}${font DejaVuSans:size=20}${alignr}${hwmon 0 temp 1}°C${font DejaVuSans:size=9}
note that the values of hwmon may be different on other computers. typing

Code: Select all

sensors
should show the value. on my dell i have two ...... temp 2 & temp 4 ,one for each core.

Also, if you look in /sys/class/hwmon you may have other sensors. for instance on this netbook i have hwmon0 and hwmon1. 0 being the cpu & 1 being the gpu which could be added as well ${hwmon 1 temp 1}

Try to use F96-CE non co-existing with any, without compressed and depressed redundancies, not 'frugally' forced.

hi @iarda1
on the release post see .....
there's an issue with picom and nouveau that can cause high cpu usage. best solution is to install the nvidia driver. if there's no driver for your card (old card) comment out # the "nouveau" line in /etc/X11/xorg.conf and restart X. This will use the modesetting driver but this has trouble setting other resolutions. If you have to use nouveau & resolution setting doesn't work (and you need it), you will have to disable picom menu>>>desktop>>jwmdesk>>window effects

i wasn't sure about adding that link as we still have python2 in the repo but probably will add it .... thanks
If you feel it would help, maybe include youtube-dl in the base system. But please use the youtube-dl website's published installation path so that its update feature, "youtube-dl -U", works properly ongoing into the future.
...issue with picom and nouveau...
In the last RC, I had "significant" issues with bad desktop behavior forcing to Cntrl-Alt-Bksp and restart the desktop..many times during a given session. But, thus far on v905RC, I have not seen it on this AMD A8-7410 APU with AMD Radeon R5 Graphics.

P.S. I want to thank you for all of your efforts. Touchscreen tracking on the desktop is PERFECT! I love the fact that the Conky is active, OOTB! Excellent choice not just for beta/RC, but for overall system activity.

Is there a way to limit the Conky display to just Desktop #1 vs all desktops? (BUT I do not want to get rid of it as it is an invaluable OOTB addition)

This is (I believe) the latest release of Celluloid
Version 0.19
A small GTK3 front end GUI for MPV
Formerly known as Gnome MPV before the name change
Compiled from source in FossaPup
Some Right-Click associations for video have been added, but you can set as default player as well.

after messing around with the nouveau driver and picom i think that i'll have to have picom use the xrender backend if nouveau is detected. this unfortunately disables vsync, but other compositing effects still work. i may have a popup with the suggestions on the release post

hi @Clarity
i'm not going to add youtube-dl to the iso as there's tartube in quickpet that brings it in.
not sure about the conky on different desktops you'll have to do some googling. https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=41788

it's good to hear that touch screen is working well as that is something i can't test.

also could you let me know what driver is being used in the device section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf

cheers

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o
