Boot and shutdown process interrupted

Post by franah486 »

Hi, I have problems running Puppy in some cases I got stuck at "Waiting for partition .." the dots also seem stuck but if I wait long enough (2~5 min) it will work but here's the good or "fun" part If I unplug the power cord this behavior cease immediately same behavior may occur at shutdown when I see "session already save, mounted directly on top layer". PS This happens at times and not very often.

This is looking like a computer with hardware problems.
When it works if you pull the power cord and just run on battery.
Could be a bad power cord or one going bad.
Connection on side of laptop clean, nothing in it, no corrosion, etc...........
Same for the power cord end that plugs into computer.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

Hi @bigpup hru :thumbup2: I've aware of keep clean these stuffs because of short-circuits and moisture are undesirable in these devices and here where I live there's high humidity.

So, I am suspicious that is not the case. I was thinking of a kernel/firmware thing. ¿Any suggest?

PS I don't remember if this also happened with the battery alone. But there's a hint I once did the opposite, that day the pc did not want to shutdown so I've plugged the power cord and it did immediately (same behavior) (same instance)

Well, try it only using the battery.

Could try resetting the bios settings to default.

If Slacko64 7.0 is the only Puppy version you have used.
It never got fully bug fixed.

Try a different Puppy version.

Hello again, after a short test this behaviour seems to go off by updating the kernel, ie (updated through change_kernels from 4.19.164 to 5.4.86)

Puppy does not need to change kernel unless you have a a piece of specific hardware that may need the newer kernel.

Unless you tell us specifically how you used the change_kernels program.
We have no idea if you did it correctly.

Well, kernels do have bugs and are not 100% perfect.

Again, if using Slacko64 7.0
It never got fully bug fixed.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

Hello bigpup  Oh, I didn't know that... Srry. To be honest I don't know anything about Linux  I've followed this thread: viewtopic.php?p=1497#p1497 thus I have downloaded the bz2 huge_kernel accordingly to my system and drag the file to the window after a couple of minutes was prompted to reset my system this task was very easy to accomplish even for me
