"Idiot's guide" to installing a VM & running Windows in it?

Post by courtage »

Is there an "idiot's guide" to installing a VM (KVM/VMware/VirtualBox/whatever) on Puppy - either Bionic or Fossa 64 - and then installing Windows 10 into that?

I don't know how to do this, but if you haven't got a very specific necessity, it is possible WINE could help you to satisfy your necessities.

Have a nice day.

@courtage

If you are using Fossapup64, there is a thread which contains the latest updated build provided by @rockedge here

To load an ISO, you do need to enter in parameters in order to facilitate a working environment.

Have a look at the initial post and you can see a working example ie setting up sound, RAM, location of ISO ..............

The easiest solution to use is VirtualBox. Install that and install windows. Works a treat.

Busy now, will expand later if need be

Yes VirtualBox is easiest for beginners, but it is hard to get running if you dont have all the so-called ducks lined up. eg loading devx, guest additions, setting users etc

One possible shortcut which I have not tried: use an SFS listed here: viewtopic.php?t=330

Thanks for all the replies - I forgot to switch on notifs (d'oh) which is why I haven't replied with thanks before.

@pp4mnklinux - Yep, Wine isn't a fit for what I want.

@geek3579 - ha exactly why I was asking for an idiot's guide; i've been round the block with vbox a few times to no avail!
