@ peebee

Downloaded

LunarPup32-23.06+0.iso -

from your link in your first post to DataTraveler 2GB USB memory stick formatted to FAT32, then -

Transferred the ISO to my WIN XP lenovo T60 laptop, then -

Low level format the DataTraveler 2GB USB memory stick and formatted to FAT32, then -

Used UNetbootin (for Win) to put the ISO on the Kingston DataTraveler 2GB USB memory stick, then -

Plugged into Gateway desktop, switched on -

Loaded as far as the error information screen, sorry can't attach that -

Amongst the lines, of note are:

Finding puppy main sfs file. Failed

*** sda1 /puppy_upupll+bw_23.06.sfs not found. (This is my internal HDD on the Gateway) -

Also I noted that the download page says:

LunarPup32-23.06.+0.ISO 2023-06-26 355.5MB

But when downloading, the text in the box says:

LunarPup32-23.06.+0.ISO xx.xm xx.xs left - of 339MB

A 16.5MB difference

It might be over-kill in what I have told you, but at least you now know the whole procedure I used as I can't give you a visual error screen -

Your help would be appreciated -

Also looking at @ gychang posts, success has been made in getting to a desk-top -

Best regards

Fiddlesticks - wish I hadn't made this change!!!

Line 14 of /etc/DISTRO_SPECS should be:
DISTRO_DB_SUBNAME='upupll+bw'

The attached ydrv patch makes the change until a new version can be made.

@Chelsea80

Sourceforge does show file sizes a bit larger for some reason - the important thing is to check the md5 checksum (see post #1) after download.

These 3rd party Windoze tools don't always understand Puppy requirements..... you need to check what files have been put in which directories on your usb stick and then how the boot configuration has been implemented.

You would be better off using FrugalPup while running Puppy to make your usb stick if this is possible? (you would need to add FrugalPup to BionicPup32).

Or do a manual frugal install to the usb stick.

@ peebee

Thank you for your response -

Just a gentle reminder that I am a user (aka key pusher), so with that in mind -

Reference Sourceforge: It begs the question as to what they add to the downloaded ISO as to make it larger than the stated ISO size on the download page -

Reference "These 3rd party Windoze tools....": Every Puppy ISO I have installed on a USB memory stick formatted with FAT32 has been done through the exact same process as described in my previous post without any problems whatsoever -

The latest Puppy ISO I have installed on a USB memory stick to try out, as per above, is F96-CE_4.iso, again no problems -

I also used said method to install my present OS onto a USB memory stick, before installing to the internal HDD, as in my signature -

So, back to the LunarPup32-23.06+0.iso install problem I have -

I have managed to secure a visual error information screen. I hope this will be of assistance to you -

At the moment I will hold back on your suggestions of using FrugalPup and manual frugal install on the basis that this is the first fail I have experienced -

Hello @peebee ,

Thank you for LunarLobster+bw 23.06.

Optiarc DVD RW AD-5540A
PNY USB 2.0 FD

on a Packard-Bell BV EasyNote MZ35.

I installed LunarLobster on a usb stick multiboot, created with a puppy tool (not unetbootin).

The stance in menu.lst is :

title Homard de la Lune (LunarLobster)
find --set-root /Lunaire/puppy_upupll+bw_23.06.sfs
kernel /Lunaire/vmlinuz pdrv=07E0-CED5 psubdir=/Lunaire pmedia=usbflash pfix=fsck
initrd /Lunaire/initrd.gz

I made many try without pdrv, without find, with "find --set-root uuid () 07E0-CED5" but the result is the same.
Always, LunarLobster wants to find /Lunaire/puppy_upupll+bw_23.06.sfs on sda3. While it's on sdb1.
But, if I record puppy_upup+bw_23.06.sfs on sda3/Lunaire/, I can start LunarLobster.

You'll find a debugsave in attachment.

Can you help me ?

Friendly.

@Chelsea80 @Rantanplan @gychang

There does appear to be a problem with the 5.15 kernel when booting from usb......

I'll need to raise a GitHub issue to see if it can be sorted

In the meantime, kernel 5.10.184 seems to be OK and I've uploaded it as an .sfs to:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/zestyp ... s/download

Hi @peebee,

yesterday I swapped in the kernel from your latest jammypup32 (5.10.184) and it booted fine.
PPM also works with ydrv.

Thank you for starting to get the wheels in motion -

Hopefully GitHub will be able to resolve this issue soon -

In the meantime, I have downloaded the LunarPup32-23.06-kernel-5.10.184.sfs -

The original kernel has to be swapped out with the new one, but how?

I have never done a kernel exchange so this will be a first for me. With the benefit of adding this knowledge to my tool-box -

Did a search on Getting Started and System Requirements, Kennel Linux (How-To) and Beginners Help -

No luck, unless I missed it in the wealth of information, or, I should have gone to Specsavers -

Now, in very layman's terms, can you explain to me how do a kernel exchange -

Or -

A 1,2,3 step could be given by @ one who has already done it, and says it works OK -

If you (peebee) or @ one made the walk through detailed enough it could be added to Kennel Linux (How-To) section for future reference for newbies -

Best regards

Open the .sfs by clicking on it and then copy the 2 files inside to your frugal install folder to replace the 2 files with the same names - then reboot.

@ peebee

Thank you for the 'How to', that's now in my back pocket for future use -

I would if I could -

To achieve the kernel exchange as you described I have to get LunarPup32 to the desk-top -

I only have the ISO that will not install onto the USB -

Unless I try another install method as you offered in a previous post -

It would be interesting to find out how @ Rantanplan managed it with a puppy tool:

I installed LunarLobster on a usb stick multiboot, created with a puppy tool (not unetbootin).

And, how @ one got to the desk-top -

yesterday I swapped in the kernel from your latest jammypup32 (5.10.184) and it booted fine.

The other option is to wait until GitHub gets it sorted and you make available the updated version -

So, I thank every-one for there time and effort, much appreciated -

Best regards to all

Hi @Chelsea80 ,

If you have ISOMaster,
first, make a backup of the ISO,
then you can open the ISO file with ISOMaster, remove vmlinuz and zdrv... and add the new vmlinuz and zdrv... gave by peebee today.

Thank you.

Peace

gthumb doesn't work...

Post by gychang »

With the up to date changes of sfs etc. I downloaded gthumb from PPM (had to add more repositories listed since default setting only had gthumb-data) but won't launch from the menu. From terminal I get this, I added similar libs but still not working. Any ideas?

@ peebee - @ Rantanplan

Thank you both -

Having now done those boring things that get in the way of life I can report that:

All went well with the kernel exchange after having thought through the logical process of what went where and when -

That ISOMaster is a nifty bit of kit -

I am now posting from LunarPup32 -

Learning is a forever process -

Best regards to you both

Hi @peebee,

... the DOTconfig-5.15.4-i686-pae in kernel-kit contains the setting:

CONFIG_USB_STORAGE=m

Shouldn't it be:

CONFIG_USB_STORAGE=y ???
