I have need to run a specific phone app (Camscanner---I know I am happy
using our many other pdf tools, too: this one is being mandated on me). Has anyone in our Fatdog community
used any android emulators happily (I searched to little avail)? I managed to help a family member use
Android Studio last year and it corrupted the firmware in the internal
Atheros Card irreparably...so I am looking for something better.
you could try installing androidx86 or chromeos in qemu, as a virtual computer! It might work. I was trying to run VooV, but it wouldn't run, also didn't run on wine. Is your app available as a chrome extension?

Thanks...I guess I will have to experiment with this and report back. I installed Chrome then tried to add the add-on and it says this on the add-on page:
"You can use CamScanner on your PC through this Chrome Add-on.
In order to download & install CamScanner for PC. You will have to acquire the services of an Android emulator. Think of an emulator as a third-party software which allows you to access Android apps on PC. "
Then it wanted me to register my identity with Google, etc., so all I really needed was a free version...but I'll play around with this and try to get an emulator going.
You may/will have to register with your Google ID. No harm in doing so.

P.S. As @stemsee recommends, you can start a QEMU virtual machine that looks like a phone; namely start a the ARM VM version and boot a Android for ARM OS within it (any Android version 7-13). Doing this, you can now navigate the Android, installing and managing, same as you do with a real Android phone.
Just a thought as his idea is a good one, IMHO.

WayDroid, Anbox, Android Studio: each provides emulation. Scrcpy brings your android screen and control onto your linux desktop.
