@Marv

The script seems to be working :thumbup:

I haven't messed around with the desktop WM, it takes so long to get everything just as you want it.

I do like peebee's LXPupSC and do have that working on another PC. TBH I just leave the desktop environments as they are, just in case I break something :lol:

Some binary compression updates works well with the inbuilt XArchiver

xz-5.4.5 - XZ Utils tools with lzip support
https://www.mediafire.com/file/zmjqtslm ... 4.pet/file

Lzip is a lossless data compressor with a user interface similar to the one of gzip or bzip2. Lzip uses a simplified form of the 'Lempel-Ziv-Markov chain-Algorithm' (LZMA) stream format to maximize interoperability. The maximum dictionary size is 512 MiB so that any lzip file can be decompressed on 32-bit machines. Lzip provides accurate and robust 3-factor integrity checking. Lzip can compress about as fast as gzip (lzip -0) or compress most files more than bzip2 (lzip -9). Decompression speed is intermediate between gzip and bzip2. Lzip is better than gzip and bzip2 from a data recovery perspective. Lzip has been designed, written, and tested with great care to replace gzip and bzip2 as the standard general-purpose compressed format for Unix-like systems.

Hello dear @Jasper!

It seems that you have been working on JammyPup. But, I don't think this work is going into the Woof-CE as I see the last change in Jammy in Woof-CE was made by me 2 months ago.

As you are already doing a lot of work, why not add it to Woof-CE as well :?:

If you think any application needs to be added (or removed), or some configuration needs to be changed from the original ISO, can you please directly make the changes to the Woof-CE? Or, in case you are not able to do so, you can also suggest the changes you want to bring in Jammy on this forum as well (but please tag me if you post any suggestions; this will give me a notification and I'll make the changes :thumbup2: ).

@user1234

I do not know how to use Woof-CE (.......... I am aware their are tutorials available :oops: ).

If you want to add any of these packages please do so :thumbup:

Most of these are updates to the original applications and are not available in the official PPM for Jammy as they are newer.

I guess that means they do come with a risk to the end user; as with all software there are always revisions.

Let me know your thoughts?

No need to worry about that... Woof-CE overwhelmed me as well at first. Nevertheless, I can add the applications to Woof-CE for you. But I have not taken a look at all the apps you have suggested on this topic (I have been away from Puppy for quite a long time; even now I am using Kubuntu). So, please if you have any suggestions, feel free to share.

Jammy64 uses apt, so there is no need for any new manual updates to Ubuntu softwares as they will be handled by apt. But yes, we can do update the non-ubuntu-official apps (meaning they are not in official Ubuntu PPAs).

BTW, I don't think this topic has the latest Jammy64 build. If you require, I can also build and upload a Jammy64 on GitHub which you can easily download. My main intention here was to ask you if any new things had to be added to Jammy (I am too new to Puppy: F-96 is the only Puppy that has been released after I started using Puppy; so do not know much about what all goes into a new Puppy :( ).

Well, welcome back!! ...... that's one simple new years resolution you can keep :thumbup:

I was aware that Jammy Jellyfish does come with Apt, however I did not think this was included in this build.

If I type in terminal

apt --help

it simply informs me that it is command is not available.

Can you let me know how you invoke it please?

Maybe you are using an older build. apt comes in the bdrv...sfs. You can either download a newer build (I have just started one), or if you can find bdrv for this build, you can load that!

I have started this build: https://github.com/lakshayrohila/woof-C ... 7625334969. Should be complete (if it completes without error) in about 1-2 hours. I'll send you the download link.

EDIT: @Jasper, the build is complete. You can download it from here: https://github.com/lakshayrohila/woof-C ... 0.0-alpha1 .

I just updated my 'another jammypup64' version E1 install to jammypup64ce-10.0 alpha. My usual all intel Fujitsu S761 circa 2012 hardware.

My install uses a custom ydrv with -surprisingly- no changes required for the update, no savefile, fdrv or adrv. The ydrv has my panel and themes, PCManFM, patches to integrate trashcans, links to portables and saved data, and a few supplemental applications. All the big stuff is run as portables.

So far, as with another jammypup64 version E1, I haven't been able to get a clean LXDE up and running so it's not my daily but seems to boot and run cleanly.

My pups: LxPupSc64 and Voidpup64 with LXDE ydrv & synaptics touchpad drivers, both using savefiles. Ydrv based Jammypup64 (JWM), Bookworm64, Fossapup23 & FossapupFire (LXDE/PCManFM). No savefiles, no fdrvs there. :thumbup:

Hello @user1234

Glad to see you're here.

Question

  • Is Pipewire-WirePlumber included your builds, OOTB, instead of Pulse-alsa?

Curious

I'm not sure about that; it's just the build you can do using the latest woof-CE changes.

I'd have checked and told you, only if I knew how to do it :oops: .

Thank you so much for doing this :thumbup: Also, for providing all the supplemental files as well :thumbup:

I will download it and replace a previous install.

The ISO is much larger then before. The firmware SFS must account for this?

Can you confirm if which build you use as the basis for compilation?

I did ask before and said that the most recent build was released Aug 2023. (.........not included in my earlier posts :thumbdown: )

Ddrescue recommends lzip for compression of backups because the lzip format is designed for long-term archiving and provides data recovery capabilities which nicely complement those of ddrescue. (Ddrescue fills unreadable sectors with data from other copies, while lziprecover corrects corrupt sectors with data from other copies). If the cause of file corruption is a damaged medium, the combination ddrescue + lziprecover is the best option for recovering data from multiple damaged copies.

Please don't ask me, I have no idea :(. I only know about a package (libpython or something like that) that was earlier redirected to devx.sfs, but now it is in the main iso (we had to do this because apt started failing without it).

Also as you were using a Jammy which did not include apt, so there must be inclusion of apt (and few more things I can't recall).

Can you confirm if which build you use as the basis for compilation?

I don't think there is any "official" release to Jammy64. So, this is just (kind of) experimental stuff. This one includes changes from about the commit @gyrog made two days ago, although those changes might not have any (direct) impact on Jammy. The last package-based change was made be me about 2 months ago (the inclusion of libpython). That's all I know :roll:.

@user1234

I think from memory, dimkr and ozsouth always suggest using large firmware files as they will usually work for most users. Helps, keep down the my XXX does not work.

As a quick test, all I did was swap over the Puppy (SFS) and add the additional BDrv (SFS) to my existing install. This is not advisable/good practice as applications do change..... so don't expect an older application (or menu entry) being available. Best to go with a new install.

Reading the text file, the Puppy and Bdrv contain the applications.

Many thanks once again :thumbup2:

..... the Synaptic screenshot was just for demonstration. No need to use sudo for using apt, works fine without it

EDIT: my mistake. Noto was actually being redirected to nlsx.sfs, but apt was still showing it was installed.

I thought you might be able to use the Graphical Disk Map application to find out where all the large files are located.

The attachment was my attempt in mounting the ISO to see if I could read it's contents ( didn't work :oops: ). It must only read from installed directories/files.

I am pretty sure this should work with mounted media .......... or there is a similar application that does the same.

@user1234

Took the plunge and installed the OS.

The screenshot is of a 'resting' desktop.

I wanted to swap out the original Fdrv for a smaller one (1/4 of the size) which I have used with FP95 and JRB's E1 JammyPup successfully.

When I did so, Connman only gave me the option of Wired & Bluetooth only. I wanted to use Wireless.

So, I switched back to the original supplied Fdrv and 'Wireless' was available to me.

GDMap application does not work on itself it appears or maybe I am doing something wrong.

I like it :thumbup: Thanks to all :thumbup2:

@Jasper, I was looking at some code and found a commit by dimkr from Oct. 2023, which made Jammy64 use Ubuntu firmware files (instead of those self-created for Puppy I suppose?). This commit was the inclusion of the following Ubuntu packages in fdrv: linux-firmware, firmware-sof-signed, intel-microcode, amd64-microcode. So, I think that contributes an extra 200-300 MB (I have a Jammy from May of last year; its ISO is about 520 MB), though there could've been an increase in some other packages' size as well - maybe some new update in some package?

Useful resource: the dimkr's commit.

That was some new information I found, so I thought I might share with you. Now, I wanted to ask you a question if you didn't mind :) -
I tried updating Geany to 2.0 in woof-CE and did a build. I think, from its 2.0 version, both the GTK3 and GTK2 version seem to work fine in Jammy64 (in the name of the test, I only wrote and compiled a C file. I am not sure in what other way it should be tested. If you think I should conduct any other test on it, please tell :thumbup:). However, I see an increase of 9MB in the main ISO and 1MB in devx.iso due to this update. What do you think, should I open a PR for this (i.e. try to get the changes in the official woof-CE, I've currently done the changes in my woof-CE); or is the update not worth the 9 MB :??
