F96-CE Stable Release

Post by rockedge »

F96-CE is ready for release! @radky has completed the final stages of work and polish and the results are outstanding.

F96-CE is outfitted with kernel 6.0.12-FP and is AUFS layered. Built from a base foundation Fossapup64-9.6 generated by woof-CE, F96-CE uses Pkg2 and PPM for package management and has many of the usual Fossapup64 applications and features.

Congrats and THANKS to the whole team that persevered :!:

Up and running with my savefile-less install on the usual Fujitsu S761 (all intel 2nd gen i5 based laptop circa 2012). I pulled Palemoon from the main SFS and pulled the 5 little core apps that had been added to the new main SFS from my radky6 ydrv (thanks @radky). Wifi connection is flawless to a kernel supported Atheros card. The latest Brave, ungoogled chromium, Slimjet portables all are fine, my panel and theme survived nicely, Just printed testpages to the networked Brother HL-2170W laser and the HP4500 all-in-one printers. Posting in Brave, CUPS just ran Slimjet as it is set as the default. All good here so far.

Cheers,

My pups: LxPupSc64 and Voidpup64 with LXDE ydrv & synaptics touchpad drivers, both using savefiles. Ydrv based Jammypup64 (JWM), Bookworm64, Fossapup23 & FossapupFire (LXDE/PCManFM). No savefiles, no fdrvs there.

@wizard perhaps a suggestion as to what the summary should read? Some text with what you think should be included.
There will be a web page for it that needs content and we could use some ideas on graphical design for it. I am looking for a nice, simple static site framework.

Design ideas are appreciated for a static web page featuring the Puppy Linux F96-CE that would be referred to on Distrowatch.

hi rockedge and everyone

jesse at distrowatch has emailed me back

and unfortunately said we can only have one picture on our distrowatch page

so we have to figure out a system that can adequately showcase all the great work

according to barry k we can change the picture only 1 time every 3 months

@rockedge

OK, lets see if I understand how this will work.
1. Announcement on Distrowatch with link to static web site
2. Static web site = single page?, with link to download hosting service?
3. Static web site will have screen shots, description, and????

Thanks
wizard

It sure can be. Since this web page is of our own design it can be as large or small, complicated or simple or anywhere in between as we decide. Custom made or framework or pre-made, it comes down to what we want to do.

Here's a go at content for DistroWatch and the static web page. Also attached is a list of programs from F96-CE's menus in .xls and .pdf format. Let me know your suggestions and if you need more or less content.

Thanks

Will there be a "F96.1-CE" with fixes for problems found in F96-CE?

Or will the method @666philb employs in FossaPup64 to apply fixes via the desktop's icon?

Curious

@rockedge

will be released soon

Shouldn't that be "unleashed"

What about asking the "mikes" and some of our other members with graphic talent to submit stylized desktop shots of F96-CE_1 as candidates to showcase on the upcoming web page? Topic could be "Show Us Your F96-CE_1 Desktop". Authors should be sure any background images are not copyrighted and free to use.

Here's one candidate to start with, title could be "Identity Crisis"

Oh NO!

Not that desktop image!

That is the one that is used by Windows 11 on a Gateway laptop I just got.

I do agree, F96-CE really needs a distinctive opening desktop image!

@wiak Yes it is a free bootstrap template called "grayscale". I liked your website/blog for the FirstRib stuff so I looked for a basic but responsive template that is easy to modify that had similar functionality.

That's a great choice. Not only much easier to maintain and update, but also results in much more modern, beautiful and professional looking site instead of the otherwise typical looking open source Linux distro sites! We do not need or want or need to look like techie github or typical barren text-dominated typical open source oriented blog sites and similar! Nor do we have time to muck around with difficult to maintain stagnant manually-coded via htlm/css/personal-created-javascript sites. Your resulting site is super fast lo load even on older machines.

Nowadays, and for several years now, I maintain several websites relating to family business and a few more for businesses we collaborate with. No way I could do that and still have any time for dev work if I was using old manual-intensive website coding methods, but no way would I use the likes of slow, resource bloated, websites resulting from using the likes of Wix.
