@Jasper - interesting. When I compile drivers, I need (for the particular puppy & kernel running) devx & kernel sources, but for anything else, I need devx & kernel headers. I assume either you didn't use those combos, or it wasn't sufficient.

@ozsouth

I will start this by stating clearly that I am a beginner :lol: and not as familiar with Linux as some of established members of the forum.

I have only been using the DevX files.

The reason for this is that if I used the kernel headers/source for an updated kernel then applications would not function correctly for those who are still using the stock build/ISO.

Am I wrong?

I thought that mix & matching these files would cause errors (DevX and headers). The same would apply if I were to used an updated version of GlibC(?)

Also, yes I was compiling an application earlier (NVME-CLI) which required updated versions of Meson and Cmake to proceed.

@Jasper

The reason for this is that if I used the kernel headers/source for an updated kernel then applications would not function correctly for those who are still using the stock build/ISO.

I'm sure there are specific cases (i.e. huge difference in kernel age perhaps), but for binaries that should generally not be so.

The same would apply if I were to used an updated version of GlibC(?)

That I have definitely had issues with. I make my kernels with an old ScPup64 (glibc 2.30), to increase compatibility. I did try a later glibc (2.33), but some folk then couldn't run the kernels with their old pups. I am going to try that again in the new year, with warnings.

@ozsouth

Thank you again for explaining this to me.

I do try to follow the comments made by others, but sometimes it can get a little confusing as I appreciate we are all at different levels of knowledge and experience.

It's a shame regarding the use of GlibC as I realise who useful it is for new applications. Will there be more 32bit kernels made available in the new year?

Let me wish and family a happy new year in advance. The updates you have shared have made my OS so much better than I ever expected :thumbup2:

@ozsouth

I have always used by default DevX for compiling and realised only recently that Cmake was not configured properly, which always spits out an error re:lbbcurl.so

A few days ago I was compiling a new application that required a newer build of Cmake. I did have one at hand and simply and overwrote my existing files to proceed.

So, just wanted to ask if I had built the application. Would it have run in my OS?

**EDIT** Bless, you, I did not realise how long etc it took to compile a working kernel. So many many thanks for your upoads :thumbup2:

autoconf-2.71-x86_64

It needs to be installed as a PET and will be used instead of the older build in the DevX SFS.
