I'm enjoyiing using Puppy linux but there's so many small things stopping it from being truly great, like the audio is very very low I can't hear anything. I tried using the pre-amp script but the option never appeared, and I've also increased the volume by gong into Alsa sound wizard, turning on the preamp in those options and maxing out every sound level and while it is louder its stil very low, is there anything else I can try to do?

I don't know if this is helpful to you but personally I have found the new Fossapup64-CE builds appear to have better audio playback/volume.

I believe this is due to PulseAudio.

If you have the time/patience/bandwith try one of the newer builds.

The easiest way to get around this is to go into the settings for the Retrovol volume control.

Rt-clk->Config Settings. On the 'Main' tab, literally the first setting you come to is 'Volume Scaling'. OOTB, this is ALWAYS set to 'Linear'.....which gives a very woolly, low-end response. Changing this to 'Logarithmic' will make one hell of a difference. I've never dared try the 3rd option - 'Exponential' - 'cause if it scales up from 'Logarithmic' to the same extent that scales up from 'Linear', I think it would blow my speakers..!

Pizzasgood knew what he was doing when he built this thing all those years ago. Let us know if that makes any difference for you.

No you didn't, you said you'd tried the pre-amp script. That could be anything.

I once tried for a week to fix weak audio -- everything I could think of, including reinstalling the OS -- before discovering that I'd plugged the speakers into the microphone jack.

It's an easy enough mistake to make, Flash. I've heard of several people doing exactly the same thing.....

Just wanted to say I DID do this exact thing and never saw any improvement, until I rebooted twice and suddenly the audio was very loud. I guess that's just another quirk of how Puppy works. Didn't take effect after the first reboot, but on the second I had to turn everything down.

What is being used for output?
Internal speakers?
External speakers?
A headset?

Is computer a laptop or a desktop?

I assume there is no separate volume control like some headsets have.

That one got me with the headsets I use.
