How to reset Chrome Browser completely?

Post by Neo_78 »

I noticed that despite clearing the browser cache & cookies and history in the Chrome settings and using the "Reset Chrome to default settings", Chrome seems to keep data of the installed extensions (ublock / noscript):

https://support.google.com/accounts/ans ... %3DDesktop

https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/3296214?hl=en

The reset option will only disable the browser extensions and if you reactivate them, previous website-specific settings are still present. So the extensions recognize the previous browser history despite the reset.

Is there a way to completely reset Chrome to a clean installation state without having to reinstall it?

Delete the directory that contains the Chrome profiles.

Find it with chrome://version/ in the Chrome navbar

or look around for something like -> /root/.config/google-chrome/

Thanks @rockedge. The user data appears to be stored in /home/username/.config/google-chrome/.

However, if you delete "Profile" folder, it will not delete the respective profile in the Chrome menu. Not sure if I am overlooking something, but profiles and extensions have to be removed from inside the Chrome settings...

Remove $HOME/.cache/chrome, $HOME/.config/chrome, and $HOME/.config/google-chrome.
You are welcome.
