Waterfox comes in two ‘flavors’: Waterfox and Waterfox-Classic. You can download them from https://www.waterfox.net/download and https://classic.waterfox.net/ respectively. They are portable, you can locate them anywhere. Both packages are in tar.bz2 format, extractable using such applications as UExtract. In the extracted-folder will be ones named Waterfox. Move it where ever you want.
The difference between them is that Waterfox is based (frequently updated) on the latest firefox-quantum, while Waterfox-Classic (like palemoon) is based on pre-quantum firefox. The publisher of Waterfox-Classic reminds you that system has security issues and which remain unresolved. [Puppys, however, have long had many techniques for preventing security breaches regardless of what Web-browser you use].
Waterfox can use the current addons for firefox-quantum. Just open it to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/. You can install the ‘Classic Add-ons’ addon into Waterfox-Classic from here, https://github.com/JustOff/ca-archive then experiment to find out which of the thousand of versions of addons will work. This Screenshot shows my short list which do.
Like all ‘mozilla’ products straight from the manufacturer (and built to expect pulse-audio to be a part of your operating system) Puppys (where they aren’t) can’t generate sound. But fredx181 figured out a way for such browsers to use audio libraries. MikeWalsh uses that system in his portables, and I’ve provided a package several time. Just follow the instructions here, https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewto ... 470#p42470, except DON’T copy the included script.
Attached are two for Waterfox: two because the next attachment will create two menu entries; one for general browsing and the other for securely accessing financial websites. “Two for the price of one; just pay the additional shipping costs”. You will have to decide what themes, addons and configurations you want for each. Or file-browse into /usr/share/applications and delete the desktop file for one.
Download the Start-Waterfox-scripts.tar.gz, extract it and copy/move its contents into your Waterfox folder.
Download and install the Waterfox_portable-menu.pet and install it. https://www.mediafire.com/file/uy5pubks ... u.pet/file
There’s two more things you’ll have to do, edit both the bash-scripts the pet will install to /root/my-applications/bin. Neither provides the actual path to your Waterfox folder. You’ll have to open them in a text editor and provide that path. For example, the script for Waterfox-Secured now reads:
exec /PATH-TO-WATERFOX-FOLDER/wfs "$@"
Change the colored portion to identify the actual location.
