KLV background images

Post by geo_c »

I'll be posting backgrounds here:
https://mega.nz/file/iW4BjBIB#1F_mX5i5f ... u7yMgJYqvg
(updated 2022.11.04)

There are 5 resolutions, but in reality I think they are more like 3 aspect ratios, just different resolutions. If more resolutions are needed, I can probably make those now as I have a process figured out. The images in the top level of the folder are the recommended choices, but there is a folder called drafts with all of the versions created.

Here are the 1920x1080 versions of the recommended two:

@geo_c I like both.

My brother is a rocket scientist. Guidance systems engineer for stage 2 of the Artemus these days so I tend to like the space backgrounds.

Great, take a look at the resolutions and aspect ratios and tell me what would be needed to cover all the possibilities.

I have a few other ideas involving airplanes, or gracious dogs to reference the Kennel. Also thinking of playing with svg's instead of photos.

I was thinking about the theme symlinking, and it occured to me that for most people it would make a lot more sense to squash an sfs without a number that could be loaded by the user. Symlinks make sense for me because I share the themes directory between different systems on the home drive, so any additions or changes are automatically available to all distros. Anyone that wanted additional desktop candy could load the sfs.

I have to put my drives offline now as I can't afford the electricity bill but it was several thousand at last count, next time I boot the stack I'll post details

I used to index them on a spreadsheet but stopped doing that around 3500, it was taking up too much time, I only keep hard backups of actual puppy builds (ISOSs etc.) and now also the forum pets, the archive pages start getting flaky with over a 1000 pets, this has over 5500 so I've made a backup of that too as it would be very difficult to replicate

there are devx files, repos, deltas, browsers etc etc

we are very lucky to have archive host these for free although I know some downloads can be slow

:)

**EDIT I'm currently archiving so drives back online, we have over 7200 builds archived

Need a logo to go with this, but the dog is a .png without a background, so the solid color function provides the background color.

There's also this one, but I think I like the other one better. The thing about this approach is you can simply center the image and choose a background color, and it'll work on all monitors.

This is a really good looking desktop. Definitely want to add the background and is a candidate for being the default wallpaper. The first version is also one I would use to replace the stock xfce4 backgrounds in the rootfs.

In the appearance window you can see two sets of themes, ChromeOS dark themes, and Classic Looks, both gtk4, and good conventional light and dark themes. Classic Looks even has a Raleigh. The icon set also comes in 6 colors.

I'll make the background in different resolutions, and zip up a couple sets of icons and the those two sets of themes. They could all be added without too much bloat. I'll see what size they come to. The icons would occupy the most space. You could include or exclude whatever seems best.

Actually I'm wrong about those themes being gtk4, they are both gtk3. ChromeOS has xwm4 included, but Classic Looks does not.

@rockedge Here is a 1920x1080 of the airedale wallpaper. I went with a blue more neutral to light and dark themes. I'll post some quick desktops using it.

I like the attitude of this dog. I think it fits the KLV vibe.

Really easy to make other colors too:

And I've gotten really quick at making xfe color schemes to match gtk themes:

@rockedge

Here are neutral blue backgrounds in 5 resolutions:

https://mega.nz/file/3WwyWZ5R#RuQXDtt5c ... UH-o4qA6gQ

I adjusted the text a bit which is kind of tricky in gimp to get a uniform look at different font sizes and resolutions. Scaling a text layer seems to degrade the quality, so I change the font size which seems to cause variation in the spacing and slant of the italics. But they look more or less uniform.

These are cool, let me take a look at what is there when I download. You probably don't need them, but my collected themes, backgrounds, and icons are here: https://mega.nz/file/7f4ViIJD#NhAt6rCmp ... DsOYkE5XVk

That's pretty nice. I think it would be cool to have a theme like that, and the default light theme, and maybe a high contrast dark something like this:

@rockedge I'm curious about this theme switcher: https://github.com/UdeshyaDhungana/xfce4-theme-switcher

I could try and compile it, but I don't know if I have all the dev and c libraries necessary to compile.

never mind that scratched comment, it's a shell script
