Do we have Bare Minimal Puppy?

Post by puppy_apprentice »

Bare Minimal Puppy (with normal devx.sfs) = Puppy with JWM and ROX, all Puppy's own tools, all libraries as in normal Puppy, with TOP and GParted (and other tools that are needed for installation) but without third-party tools like web browsers, mail readers, games, picture viewers and others.

Some users on the forum ask how to remove some applications because they don't need them or prefer others. They can use Remaster option but minimal version in my opinion would be better for experimenting.

Historically, there have been bare-bones puplets (one even named so) -- down to, what -- 30MB??

Anyway, have a look at these, perhaps something there for you:
BusterPup stripped
Quirky Light
Barebones Pups to run Static Apps
Tahr Light
Bionic Light

Cheers!

Thanks. I suspected that there were such attempts. It would be nice if there was a ready-made Woof-CE recipe for this, if possible.

There is a CorePup subsection onboard.

ISO's are found here:

@puppy_apprentice - you can run fossapup64-9.5 without it's adrv - about 170mb. The missing dependencies for any extra software will drive you mad, so something from the earlier list will be more useful - maybe this: https://archive.org/details/bionic4.9.174

hi puppy apprentice

your request has been made many times over the years

but it was never really produced
i think the woof-ce process doesnt lend itself to a truly minimal core with modular additions

corepup is structured this way from scratch
but is not puppy it is derived from tinycore linux
however you can add sfs files to it just as you would puppy

you might take a look at corepup if you are interested in this kind of a system
and i will walk you through everything

corepup is not command line only it has a full gui
and can be added to to make as complete a system as you want

but if you want a true puppy core and additions
there have been some cut down puppies in the past
but they are not really minimal cores

that is aside from pupngo by goingnuts
that has not been developed for sometime

maybe the puppy gurus would like to take another look at this idea
and give it another try
