No sound from Acer Aspire i7-I10510U / Bionicpup64 (Solved)

Post by swhnk-puppy »

Hello everyone, thanks to you I recently managed to make the Acer Aspire i7-I10510U notebook work with BionicPuppy (64bit), I have tried it well in these hours and everything works perfectly (notebook and programs) except the touchpad and the card audio.
For the touchpad I don't care that much (I saw it in the BionicPuppy configuration and it is disabled and I can't activate it), instead I am very interested in having the audio that doesn't work neither in the files I have on the hard-disk, nor in internet, is not really detected and, consequently, the related programs do not work.
The sound icon does not appear in the bottom bar as soon as you enter Puppy, if I go to the properties the mixer does not work and tells me that it does not detect any sound card.
Yet the card is there because in Windows 10 and Mint20 it works doing its duty.
I ask you for help because I do not know how to fix it, it has never happened to me in general in 30 days of PC use that the sound card does not work, I am completely unprepared.

You are kind of describing issues that will happen if you do not get a 100% good install of a Puppy version.
Bad download of the Puppy iso and or bad install.
It may boot to desktop, but get strange issues with things working.
So, could try a fresh clean download of the Puppy iso and fresh clean install.

However, this is a very new computer.
Bionicpup 64 8.0 may not have the needed support files for the hardware.
Fossapup64 8.0 is at final stage of release and working well.
It has the latest stuff for hardware support.
Could give it a try.

If you want to keep using Bionicpup64 8.0

it needs to be using a new save file/folder only made on this computer.
If you try to use a save made on some other computer. the settings in it are going to be wrong for the computer.

For the no sound problem.
card audio
See if menu->System->Pup-Sysinfo->Devices->Audio
Has any info about the sound hardware.
If yes.
Copy and paste what it shows.

Maybe the info can be found in Windows 10 or mint 20.
Trying to see what exactly the sound hardware is.

Any chance the laptop has a off/on switch for sound?
Bionicpup may or may not auto turn it on if set to off.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

Hello, sorry for the delay in replying but I had commitments and I had to redo the key from the beginning. The usb stick only with Bionic Puppy and without having downloaded the programs does not work on the Acer i7 despite having put the bootloader in one partition and the system in the other.
It is useless for the moment to continue as the new version of Puppy will be released which I hope will solve the problems otherwise we will try to resume the discussion.
Thanks for your efforts.
P.S. when is the new version of Puppy officially released?

Not long.

But go and try using Fossapup64 9.0.5
It is usable now and works OK.
Typing this from it now.

Well!!! Thank you Bigpup for recommending fossapup64-9.5, I installed the official version and everything works on both the Laptop i3 and the Acer i7 notebook, solving the problems that the latter presented with the audio since it did not load the sound card.
The only 2 programs downloaded from PPM that do not work and that perhaps did not even work on BionicPup are Audacity and LMMS because once installed and present in the menu they are not loaded when I click on their respective icons but it does not matter ...

hi @swhnk-puppy ,

audacity & lmms should now be fixed in fossapup.
to get them working .......
1. click on quickpet >> fossapup updates
2. uninstall audacity & lmms (note you only have to uninstall those two items not all their dependencies)
3. re-install audacity & lmms

Thanks 666philb, I did what you told me and now everything really works well. One question: but the update of the 2 programs (Audacity and LMMS) took place at my request or by pure chance had they already been made? When I proceeded to update the system I got the message "install fix for Audacity ... swhnk-puppy
install fix for LMMS ... swhnk-puppy "
Just curiosity just to understand Puppy better.

Part of using Puppy Linux, is helping to find stuff not working and testing out new Puppy versions.
Really, anything you want to do to help.

666philb is good, at giving people credit for helping him fix, the Puppy versions, he develops!

We are Puppy!
Resistance is futile!

Plus, we the users of Puppy are the Puppy computer testing lab.
I do not think, 666philb has a big room full of different computers and hardware, to test his creations on.
But we all together, add up to one!! :thumbup2: :D
