Displays black screen and hangs on my Fujitsu.
I have to overwrite the new bootx64.efi to the previous version and it runs.
@bugnaw333
Thanks for the feedback.
Was that previous version Easy 4.3.4?
What model Fujitsu?
Would you mind trying the attached BOOTX64.EFI -- it has a false ".gz"
It is from the latest Limine in the 4.x branch, 4.3.
I suppose, if that fails, you could go to the Limine site and download older versions, until you find one that works. Then we could tell the developer mintsuki exactly what versions breaks boot on the Fujitsu.
I recently did that for one of my computers, it took awhile.
Barry,
yes, from EasyOS version 4.3.4 (200k size)
Fujitsu Futro MA574
Black screen and hangs on the attached latest Limine BOOTX64.EFI.gz (168k size)
Best regards,
Reynaldo
3.1.5--Black screen and hangs.
3.2.5--Black screen and hangs.
4.0, 4.1.2, 4.1.3, 4.2--OK, but display lo-res during startup and hi-res after kernel modules are loaded.
4.3--Black screen and hangs.
EasyOS 4.3.4--OK, displays hi-res all the way.
EasyOS 4.4--Black screen and hangs.
I updated my 2009 BIOS PC with Quad Core CPU and Nvidia card from 4.3.4-de to 4.4-de without problem. Using a USB stick to run EasyOS.
Hello! Limine dev here. First message on the forums
Barry and bugnaw333, can you test the attached EFI executable (remove fake .gz) on your HP motherboard PC and your Fujitsu Futro MA574, respectively, and report back whether it works?
Hi, mintsuki.
Displays black screen and hangs on my Fujitsu.
Reynaldo,
At first didn't know it was you!
Easy 4.3.4 had Limine 3.16 didn't it? (my memory is not so good!)
Well, working from there, here are BOOTX64.EFI from 3.16 to 3.18.3.
You could try each one progressively, and find out exactly what version it goes wrong.
Attached...
Continuing...
These may also be helpful for anyone else for whom an earlier Limine has worked but not latest.
Also try this one out, please.

Barry,
1st 3 groups OK, hires all the way during start-up. I will proceed to the next 2nd group.
Mintsuki,
Still black screen and hangs.
Try this. Barry, please let me know as well if this runs on the machine mentioned in issue #222
Barry, mintsuki,
FYI. I have no problem running EasyOS 4.4 fresh install in USB stick on my old HP EliteDesk 800 G1 USDT.
mintsuki,
Yes, the first one you posted, at top of this page, works on the HP motherboard.
Reynaldo and Barry, can you both try the attached version on your 2 affected machines?
This one too, thanks.
I have just tested the one at bottom of page-2, it works.
The one at top of this page (page 3) does NOT work.
After the menu, just a black screen, no cursor.
mintsuki,
I wonder if it makes any difference that the kernel currently has CONFIG_FB_SIMPLE and CONFIG_SYSFB_SIMPLEFB disabled?
The reasoning goes back to this post:
https://bkhome.org/news/202111/kernel-5 ... ffers.html
...even though I couldn't see the point of using the legacy framebuffers back then, something must have convinced me to do it. Um, yes, FatDog Linux has the legacy framebuffers enabled, maybe I just thought if they can do that so can I.
EDIT:
VERY interesting!
I found an older kernel, 5.10.61 for EasyOS 3.0, which has the efi simple fb enabled, and it works with the latest BOOTX64.EFI
OK, will try the one from bottom of page 2...
Trying the first BOOTX64.EFI that you posted on page 1 ...WORKS!
Trying the second one posted on page-1, also works.
That is very interesting. However, Limine should be made to work with kernels that have legacy efi framebuffers enabled, so I guess that fix in last post page-2 is still relevant.
Yes, just tested the one from bottom of page-2, it works also with the older kernel with simple-efi-fb.
Sigh, the kernel developers keep shifting the goal posts:
"Update 5.12 to 5.16 - SimpleFB not working anymore"
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-8 ... 77b1c9500e
This is a good read:
"Replace the fbdev drivers with simpledrm and the DRM fbdev emulation layer"
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/ ... devDrivers
Okay, I have released 4.20220927.0 and 3.20220927.0 (yeah, new versioning scheme...) which should address both Barry's and Reynaldo's issues, including an attempt at fixing Reynaldo's reduced resolution issue (I make no promises though)
Well, it is normal for the screen to start up in a lower resolution. When the kernel has loaded the kms video driver module, it switches to a higher resolution.
