PC Technology Changing among Public

The reporting has been sounding the bell that demand for PC technology is dropping even as technological innovation increases. Here's one report drawing attention to this Trend ===> PC BUYING

There are also other reports over the past 60days spelling a major downturn in PCs in education, business, consumer, etc for tablets and PCs.

I am trying to interpret why and the contributing factors as I look at

  • economy

  • environment

  • gaming

  • metaverse

  • and an alarming increase in denial of factual information

This is also in light of the "work from home" that is now ever-present in our world across the planet.

In my efforts in working with young-adults for upcoming school years, I wonder what to expect from them as well as how to help them frame "change".

Your thoughts on the meaning of this trend.

For me, I have no reason to buy a new computer or any core hardware updates.
Computers have gotten to the point, that they do everything you want to do, and do it in an acceptable speed.

Not like the old days, when the difference between a new latest hardware computer, was much better in all ways, than the old one you had.

A lot of people are glued to their cell phone!
They probably could not use a computer, unless the cell phone was held up next to their face.
Plus most common tasks, you can do on the cell phone.

One of my observations has been that many people bought home computers just to be "connected" with things like e-mail, instant messenger, social media, etc. With the rise of the smart phone and it's increased power that role has been supplanted and a huge amount of the market is perfectly fine with the capabilities of the smart phone as their primary computing device. It's smaller, faster and easier for them.

Computer in my pocket. Although a big pocket. Don't worry about security and privacy, as theres little of both. A chromebook is a step up for a lot less money, and just as portable for most. But then again, you'll need a cheap flipfone with talk & text plan. Still much cheaper than most smartphones. Some of us don't have a grand in loose change to spend on these new smartphones... every two years.
