Is it possible to create a bootable, customized live DVD of EasyOS instead of having to write it to a USB stick?

Its actually kinda interesting question. And good luck trying to google it. No matter how you word it, the search always assumes you are trying to boot an iso from a usb drive. Not trying to do the opposite.

I always had the notion booting from usb drive prepared by Rufus, Etcher, etc was mainly for UEFI. And given choice I will always boot legacy, its just simpler. Even with windows. Recently I put MrChromebox UEFI only bios to convert a defunct Chromebook. UEFI ONLY bios. Well I was trying to find a linux distribution that supported the sound chip in the thing without swapping kernels. At one point just out curiosity, I plugged in a usb dvdrom and tried booting MX21 from dvd. It worked. I really had no idea you could boot a live dvd on UEFI only computer. Ended up installing MX21, it and Debian 11 had support for the sound chip out of the box. Though from thumbdrive no problem booting Fossapup, EasyOS, and Knoppix.

I dont really see it being big deal dvd or usb, except dvd is like 25cents so easy and cheap to keep copies around of various isoes. I am not one to throw the baby out with the bathwater.... Now one suggestion, the last iso version of EasyOS was like Pyro 1.3. You might hunt that down and examine it. Thats how I finally got Easy booted first time, booted Pyro 1.3 from dvd. I didnt have a spare thumbdrive right then and wanted to see it. I frugal installed it to partition, and then updated it to my current 3.4.7 Dunsfell.

Please note that you don't have to write the image file to a usb-stick, you can just directly frugal install it.

Just copy the three files 'vmlinuz', 'initrd' and 'easy.sfs' to a folder in a ext4 partition, then add entry to a boot manager.

You could write to a usb-stick to be able to get those three files; however, easy-*.img can be mounted and the files copied out.

There is a utility 'mount-img' in EasyOS that will open up an .img file. I think that it was posted somewhere on this forum.

I would like to use EasyOS as a live system instead of having to install it to hard drive.

That's why I was wondering if it is technically possible to customize EasyOS, create an image of that system state and then burn it on a bootable DVD that is afterwards non-writeable. Basically the same function that FatDog is offering.

Multi-session DVD still highly relevant

"I am toying with the idea of adding multi-session DVD support to EasyOS."

Would it be possible to add this feature to EasyOS?

I am sure that many in the community would really appreciate it...
