Updating a drop-in kernel

Post by 8Geee »

I do have a question here about the drop-in kernals that are almost standard... Can the "patch" option at kernel org be used here to "update" the kernel installed? Is there some scripting?, or is it heavy-lifting?

Use the kernel-kit, it is rather straight forward. There is a directory called /patches, here you can place the patches if not using the monolthic version of the patch but the indivdual patch files.

The kernel-kit run will add the patches automatically. In the kernel-kit directory modify the build.conf file then run ./build.sh

That's how I add in the many full real time kernel patches to generate full RT kernels with AUFS for Puppy Linux's.

Might be something you would want to try out.....compile your own custom Puppy kernel

Just a minor curiosity, why don't you use directly use the aufs kernel git tree and instead use patches?

No full real time kernels exist in the AUFS kernel tree. So I patched and compiled some huge RT kernels for Puppy Linux and now can be used in KLV-Airedale or KLV-Boxer as well

In Other News related...

While scouring slackware for recent security patches, I stumbled upon a 4.4.301 (penultimate) Slackware kernel update. This LT 4.4.xxx is used in Slacko7.0, and went adios back in Feb.

Slackware divides the kernels into multi and single core (SMP / no SMP). The whole set of kernel-bashing is available at
